Any site using Hawx 2 or Stone Giant should automatically be disregarded as they are nothing more than bought nVidia "games" designed to make the radeons look much slower than they are.

I don't mind 'pro-BrandX' games as long as the test series is balanced with 'pro-BrandY' games.

I always skip past the Hawx benchmarks for the above reason and I don't own it or plan to. Have not seen Stone Giant in any review whilst I'm deciding whether to get a 560ti or 6950 for my next upgrade.

Re: Opinions - AMD challenges NVIDIA on world's fastest graphics-card claim

I don't know why AMD are getting so defensive, it's really only the enthusiasts that purchase such cards and they tend to be well informed and much less likely to be swayed by 'NUMBERONEMOSTPOWERFULSUPERSPECIALAWESOMEFASTESTEVER' on the box.

As far as I can see both cards are on very similar levels of performance, AMD may be currently achieveing higher framerates overall but nVidias is still new and may catch up with driver updates. Also from a tech perspective both teams tend to accelerate different things, nVidia having better tesselation for example.

Now I was going to rate them on hardware I'd say the Geforce wins hands down, it's small quiet and cool and plenty fast.

Basically it's a mixed bag and neither side can really claim dominance.

I'm with ATi on this one. All the reviews I read, one card never beat the other one enough to declare a hands down.

    Yay for competition!

Re: Opinions - AMD challenges NVIDIA on world's fastest graphics-card claim

Firmly on the fence here. Never going to own either. Healthy competition is good agreed. My biggest concern is both comanies have clearly stated 'butter my ar*e' when reminded of the PCIe standard of 300w. Now the cat is out of the bag I dread to thik what is being dreamt up.

Tesselation is no longer a deal breaker afaik. The 69ks do it as well as the NV cards. Unfortunately this will also be the swansong of 40nm chips. It went very quickly!

    but

6990`s are blowing up as well - seems the first foray passed 300w isnt working out amazingly well so far...

that an AMD drivers still have adaptive tessallation - and reduce the `set` tessallation level to what they want not what the game/programme wants.

Re: Opinions - AMD challenges NVIDIA on world's fastest graphics-card claim

I think it's fair to ask nvidia to substantiate their claim. No doubt they can prove it though.

Hopefully nvidia makes the claim somewhere in the Uk and the ASA can get involved - that would be nice

Re: Opinions - AMD challenges NVIDIA on world's fastest graphics-card claim

Sites like Hexus can help, by being transparent and explaining the precise, honest, reasons for the benchmarks that have been chosen.

It's nice that Tarinder does listen to debate and opinion when we occasionally bring it up in review freedback, but perhaps an article just about the benchmark choices would be nice, and reviews could link to it in the 'how we test' page.

It's quite easy to substantiate. Just link to the completely neutral Bit-tech review.
