Doesn't surprise me, I am always completely underwhelmed by staff knowledge & attitude and their prices.

"we have to question the significance of the iPad launch."

Dixons retail had the launch exclusive of the iPad in the UK, therefore I would assume sold many more units than this years universal roll out of the iPad 2.

You sure Best Buy didn't have it too? http://channel.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=24858, also it wasn't available in the UK until half way through that quarter. Just seems like a thin piece of mitigation to me.

The only thing I am surprised about it the fact Currys/Dixons/PC World is still trading.

Re: News - Dixons announces 10 percent UK decline

Oh dear, doesn't look good at all. When I worked for DSG, a senior regional manager once told me that if our share price dipped below 9p then they would last less than 6 months.

The iPad was retailed for 60 days exclusively at DSG stores (PCW / Currys) along-side apple stores - no one else on the high-street was allowed to sell them during that period.

DSG still trade, I am amazed! maybe if they got there 'stuff' together with their online site they might be able to subsidize their horrendously bad high street stores that never have stocks or a great range of products.

Sorry but Dixons, Currys and PCWorld have always annoyed me over the years.

Re: News - Dixons announces 10 percent UK decline

I would think that supermarkets / Argos flogging TVs and laptops is the biggest killer for them, not the internet. That is where average 'Trev the builder' buys his electronics. And it is where I buy some stuff too - my hdmi cable cost me a fiver at Sainsburys while it would have cost me £40 at Richer Sounds if I'd stumped up for it along with the telly.

Last thing I bought was my MSI Wind Dixons rebadge netbook about 3 years ago.... literally not been in since.

Richer Sounds sell HDMI cables for £3 - not sure why you felt the need to try and bash Richer Sounds. They are a leading of example of how electrical retailers should be like.

Re: News - Dixons announces 10 percent UK decline

Well I don't like DSG but they are better than Best Buy. Best Buy has been the biggest disappointment in retail I've ever experienced. I was hoping for good prices but working 2 minutes from a bestbuy and 2 minutes the other direction from a PCWorld/Currys megastore I've found myself more likely to go to PCworld - If only because they have a better range and prices seem to be a tiny bit better. In the end though I still buy 99% of stuff on line in the end because I just don't like staff dodging....

I am sure they will pull out of it, its not the first time figures have been down or they have be in financial difficulty.

The group stores have never been the best places for deals in the past, but since xmas i bought a top quality lcd for £20 cheaper than online, and a tumble dryer for cheaper than i could find online, so they are getting better with their pricing.

When I asked for an HDMI cable to go with the new TV, they said £40. Asked if they had any cheaper, they said no - then gave all the usual gold plated for superior quality BS reasons. Oxford branch. Not having a go at RS, they're way better than most - but in this case I'm saying it like it happened.
