Apparently so! Although to be fair, we have been heading in this general direction for years now. I think the final nail in the coffin was XBox360 and PS3 having game patch storage and online features. Is it too much to ask that developers get their games in tip-top shape before launch?
Of course, there is still one company bucking the trend and they are probably one of the most successful in recent years: Blizzard.....but you can normally count how many titles they release in a year on 2-3 fingers
Part of the problem is the pressure to get games out for a specific date or week. Skyrim had the silly gimmick 11/11/11 release date for ages before hand. Apparently this patch is causing some dragons to fly backwards...

Compared to any previous TES game, this one is very well polished indeed! Given it's also got the most content, that's quite an achievement IMHO. To get much better you have to either spend three times as long on development, so it costs way more and looks outdated when released (hello Blizzard) or you cut down on features massively (hello Bioware). Given we've got examples of those, I'll take my sprawling, ambitious, beautiful epic, especially when it's such good value for money, even if it does contain a few mistakes.
By the way, I don't think the PC patch is out yet.

In-game mistakes I can deal with, but lack of stability really winds me up. Some game studios seem to have no problem delivering a stable game on the first release. In my experience of past Bethesda games, such as Fallout 3, Bethesda can't deliver a stable game at all - even with patches. I've avoided them since, which is a shame, because the games themselves are great.
They're getting better. Skyrim is more stable than Oblivion, which was much more stable than Morrowind, which was a billion times more stable than Daggerfall, which was a little less stable than Arena, but no-one really played Arena long enough for a valid comparison
But yes I can see it's annoying if you have a system that doesn't play ball. I've been incredibly lucky in that respect. The computer to my left is already less stable in Skyrim than mine.
I expect things to get better with Skyrim since it's a new engine. I have been surprised by the amount of people playing without issues, much improved over their previous games.
Considering I still have lots of DLC to get for Fallout: New Vegas(which I love) I doubt I'll get Skyrim until it's bundled with DLC. I also have plenty of other games to play so it's not like I have the time to play Skyrim as well anyway.
yea its not a brand new engine
Well PC patch is out, on the Xbox 360 and PS3 it breaks both the dragons so they fly backwards and makes you resists count for nothing, they basically reduced to 0% regardless of your gear, not sure if this relates to PC or not.
PC users are reporting the same thing On the plus side, some of them are also reporting better performance, if you had an issue with that before.
Hope it doesn't affect absorb - my mage is completely reliant on absorbing magicka to do anything.
edit: gah and it updated regardless of me asking it not to
edit2: hmm performance has increased quite a bit - no mouse lag at all, like V-Sync's been disabled or something
edit3: my absorb is still working fine. Someone has reported racial resistances are now working for them

Hi, how do use shouts om this game? i got the first one and when i select it from the inventory, it doesnt apply it and therefore cant use it? i notice that when its highlighted from the inventory menu, at the bottom right hand corner it says 0 dragon souls? what does this mean? do i need to get dragon souls? if so, how? i need to use the shout on a quest where i got to use and demonstrate this shout ability to someone from High Hrothgar.
the shout ability is called unrelenting force.
Press (or hold) Z to use shouts if you have unlocked them. You generally have to kill a dragon to start using a new shout although in some quests they just give you them.
This patch hasn't really done much for me. The game still randomly crashes which can be unbelievably annoying if you haven't saved in a while
I'm getting random freezes since applying the patch on the 360
