Far too expensive for what it is. From what I can see, the Wii U seems only moderately more powerful than current generation machines, so you're paying a lot for the GamePad (it'll be interesting to see what the second one retails for).

I just don't see what people have to gain coming from a 360 or PS3.

Re: News - Nintendo Wii official specs, games list and UK price indication

I wasn't totally WOW'D by the WiiU at E3 but I am still looking forward to it. In terms of its price and hardware though, I feel it might not work out. One Nintendo still hasn't announced a price and if it's nearing the £300 mark like this retailer suggests I think that will hurt sales.

Two, it was rumoured that the AMD GPU would be based off a HD4000, which I really hope isn't true. Simply because Nintendo hopes for lots of 3rd party support and getting the "Triple A" titles published for it. Yet it's expected for the "Next Gen" to support DX11, which if rumour is to be believed the WiiU hardware will not, giving Nintendo a short run at the "triple A" games.

I'm hoping this rumour isn't true and the WiiU will support DX11 and that the "untrue" details heard at E3 about the WiiU price being £250 is true, rather than the retailer in this article stating £279.99.

Re: News - Nintendo Wii official specs, games list and UK price indication

Well being a Nintendo device I fully expect it to drop £50 in a month or two of release ala 3DS. After all its suffering the same problems as the 3DS - no one quite understands the tech or sees a need for it (3d screen vs pad controller) and it feels too expensive vs other machines (DSi vs Xbox/Ps3).
    Trust

    Laptop : Dell Inspiron 1545 with Ryzen 5500u, 16gb and 256 NVMe, Windows 11.

Re: News - Nintendo Wii official specs, games list and UK price indication

I'd rather pay the extra 14p (or even an extra £14) going with just about any other retailer.

But assuming the 30,000 yen is correct, then it's about right. UK prices are usually a little above direct Japanese conversion (but a lot more than US price).

I'll comment on the device after I've tried it. The Wii might not have been for everyone, but it was a runaway it despite people's earlier sceptical about it's controller. Launched price was lower but price stayed high due to demand.

Re: News - Nintendo Wii official specs, games list and UK price indication

Graphics wise it didn't seem too impressive but remember how poor the graphics were at launch with the PS3 and xbox360, as developers get used to it and develop new techniques it could push up the graphics.

From what is rumoured it's going to be a 6000 series chip which has plenty of grunt at 1080p resolutions.

I reckon it's a pretty good price, thing is this whole thing with the controller is a major turn off..I don't want to be distracted from the game while I fiddle about switching stuff on the screen, but then again it could be something you get used to.

Also this whole thing about having loads of people being able to connect with you and draw pictures is a bit off putting...it's just gonna be loads of penises (penii ?).

Cracked did a pretty good article on some of the more obvious faults I'm just hoping it's easy to block out people.

    CPU: IBM Power-based multi-core microprocessor
GPU: AMD Radeon™-based High Definition GPU

Nintendo need to be more open about what exactly is in the WiiU and not just generalising it. Their E3 was a joke there were no real Nintendo games other than Pikmin! There was no Metroid,Starfox,Fzero,Zelda etc! You would think they would come out guns blazing and being a huge Nintendo fan, 17 years, I am truly disappointed. All the games they showed were 3rd party that look and play better on my PC! And they are selling it for £280 but there are no good games that I cant get else were.!

Well hopefully soon someone will have one open on a bench and have some proper specs. If it is 3 or 4 core with something like 6770 graphics according to some rumours then the price doesn't seem too outlandish. The xbox 360 launched about the same price if I recall and if those rumour specs are true then it has a fair bit more oomph...that controller can't be that cheap to make either.

Hopefully it won't sound like a vacuum cleaner like the early 360's, nephew had one an I couldn't believe the noise lol

    Some more detailed specifications:

    http://www.computerandvideogames.com...ram-8gb-flash/

AFAIK,there was noise that the CPU was Power7 based, which probably would mean it is more powerful then the Xenon in the Xbox 360.

The GPU was meant to be based on the HD4000 series, according to early rumours, but if it is an HD6000 series based GPU with eDRAM,is it is going to be far more powerful than the current consoles.

Moreover,£280 is again not too bad. However, the main issue is how powerful the other next generation consoles will be and how much they will cost.

Re: News - Nintendo Wii official specs, games list and UK price indication

I get the feeling that Nintendo may try to launch at £279.99 or £299.99 in the UK, then rapidly drop the price when demand falls far lower than supply, possibly to £249.99 or even £229.99.

A lot of its early success will depend on price, games and the perceived power of the console relative to existing generation consoles (i.e., Xbox 360 and Playstation 3). If it's only perceived as mildly superior or about the same, many potential customers may well stay away.

Nintendo has got to convince potential customers of the worthwhileness of the Wii U, especially given the economic woes for most countries at present.

The touchscreen controller is probably bumping up the price too. Since Nintendo will have a decent headstart on the competition, they should have launched a version with no controller for nearer to £200 IMHO.

I wonder how they will integrate the touch screen in the games. Nintendo have always tried to inovate with their machines.
