I'm actually looking forward to these being released - I want to see the performance vs llano (+ power consumption). Hopefully they will make quite a potent choice for a media center pc.

Unfortunately a media PC or basic box is all they would be good for I fear, AMD are always behind the curve on CPU performance at the moment - and 32nm still

I think it's safe to say they're not really competing in the enthusiast segment at the moment but, like davesom555, I'm still interested to see how these fit in to the grand scheme of things. As a gamer on a budget I'm still considering AMD for a new build.

The A8-5500 & A10-5700 look like they will make nice oem boxes with 65w tdp.
Will be interesting to see what the system power draws will be like under loads and how the GPU stacks up, as well as the prices of cpu of course

Re: News - AMD to launch Trinity desktop APUs on the 1st October?

    :sigh:

The absolute highest CPU performance isn't crucial for the vast majority of applications beyond benchmarking or e-peen. It's not like P4-Athlon days where there was a significant difference, it's a couple of % either way now; in a blind test, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.

OTOH, the AMD GPU part of even first-gen Llano is still a fair bit ahead of Intel's latest IVB graphics, and it's by a noticeable amount in games i.e. difference between playable and unplayable although in some cases its partly down to drivers TBF.

Why does using 32nm matter so much? Even for Intel, 22nm yields aren't great yet so power consumption isn't massively improved over the refined 32nm process - AMD jumping to a cutting edge process ASAP would waste time/money in more ways than one.

Hopefully some reviews are in progress + waiting for NDA to lift, performance vs Bulldozer will indeed be interesting considering improved architecture but lack of L3 cache...

Re: News - AMD to launch Trinity desktop APUs on the 1st October?

Been waiting ages for these. Pretty sure they said Kaveri 28nm would fit into the FM2 socket, if thats the case, then we have a winner coz I/People would buy the 32nm Trinity and then the 28nm Kaveri (drop in upgrade)

The software optimized for these APU`s is a pretty big plus and growing everyday, even the Professional side (APU FirePro) is taking leaps and bounds into new territories.

    I so can't wait, I plan on setting up a system with a Mini-ITX/Micro-ATX in this case http://www.streacom.com/products/fc5-od-fanless-chassis/ using that A10-5700 and a 6670 as a HTPC/NAS/Console-replacement.
