Okay so it consumes a little less power than the FX 8150... But still, it will still make my local electric company happy!

    I'm not sure where you're finding these £150 3570K's and £230 3700K's?

Re: Reviews - AMD FX-8350 Piledriver CPU

    from the table on http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/cpu/46...er-cpu/?page=2 it says £170 15 and £250 i7?

shipping either side of the £150 price point, the Core i7-3770K and Core i3-3225 offer more context.

PD is heading in the right direction - although it does seem my 1090T at 3.6ghz still has no replacement as yet (neither does the 965/975 X4? maybe throw one of those into the mix as well?)

we`ll see next year how PD is doing!

Just out of interest, did Dirt Showdown use the avx version of the exe, or the standard? The older processor would have used the standard exe as they did not support the AVX instruction set.

Better but not good enough, especially when so close to the 3570K in price. Probably a good buy for those still on the AM3+ socket though, makes no sense for a new build unless the few things it's good at are what's needed. Not regretting changing my main pc from phenom II to ivy bridge earlier this year.

    Hi,

It was the AVX version of the executable. The image-grab of the bench highlights the AVX extensions in the title - showdown_avx 2012-10-17 08-54-33-25

Did i miss the reason that the overclocking was done with multiplier only? I know its the easiest way to get an overclock but the FSB on the Bulldozer chips had lots of room to move (mine is at 280 at default voltage) and would love to see if PD has too.

Re: Reviews - AMD FX-8350 Piledriver CPU

Hmm I think I will most probably get this to replace my current bulldozer fx8150 but I wonder if I can get this chip cheaper than what I got the bulldozer when it first came out..... I think 150.00 is more than reasonable for the price to be fair as I find the current bulldozer chip O/C's like a dream...

Page 3 mistake - A little better than FX-8150 in each test, perceived memory bandwidth and latency is considerably lower than Intel Core i5-3570K's.

    That should be higher bandwidth.

How do you figure? The gap has clearly closed by quite a bit. While single threaded performance still lacks, it was very close to the 2500K in Batman and in no way can be called a bad gaming chip at that.

Multithreaded it's clearly ahead of the 3570K. It's still too heavily biased to multiple threads but it's a lot more balanced than Bulldozer was.

Re: Reviews - AMD FX-8350 Piledriver CPU

I like that Hexus' have done tests at decent gaming settings (seems to be a growing trend - finally).

From a quick glance it seems there can be up to £100 difference between 'equivalent' AMD and Intel builds - 8320/CVF & 3750K/MVF. It would be nice if Hexus' went off the beaten track and did a comparison of what the extra £100 can net you with an AMD build over an Intel one, and if it possibly makes the choice more compelling.
