I wish they'd hurry up and release the R290 so we can see some price drops I'm thinking an R280 would be nice to match with my 7950.
So AMD is no longer in trouble, right? Great. Means it can put even more work towards the open source graphics drivers on Linux. They have been improving quite drastically already!
Considering they are trumpeting the console deals as a major thing the increase in revenue over a year ago is pretty paltry, I really don't think those console chips are going to be high value sales, probably more useful as a marketing point and having got some valuable R&D paid for.
Margin is still not encouraging. $48m off $1.6b is 3%... by contrast amongst the competition Intel reported $3.5b/$13.5b (26%), Qualcomm $1.68b/$6.24b (27%), I don't think NVidia have reported yet??
Its been a long time since AMD got an increase, hoping to see more of that soon !
“an unmatched level of hardware optimization, revolutionary performance and image quality,” - Well, i wouldn't say unmatched... they're just getting in level with their competitor. performance and image quality is also improving so I'm happy for AMD to see that they're improving.

it's weird that they neglect a market where they only have one competitor. Their only major competitor in the desktop CPU market is intel, in the GPU market its nvidia, yet they choose to go into cluttered markets because they can't seem to do right in the segments that made them what they are. Their chipset and CPU offerings are not very attractive. Then for their GPUs they only have new products that are expensive for the consumer, while everything else is a rebrand of 2 year old technology. If I were an investor I would be cautious as well. The r9 290x and 290 will cost too much to make a dent, based on the direction amd is going - every new flagship single GPU card has gotten progressively more expensive - and the rumours.
The console situation is good, depending on their arrangement there. I guess no consoles have been sold yet so they won't be seeing the cash from that right now.
Hopefully amd start making a comeback, intel and nvidia need a reason to lower those prices lol.
AMD, I am glad to hear good news about you... You give us cheaper CPU/GPU, your competition helps us all end users. Till the end I am sold to you. AMD
That what investors saw too. And the fact that the PC CPU market for AMD is the biggest margin puller , you can see why they were not too optimistic.
Lets hope that when the yelds of the APU's for Sony and Microsoft picks up , AMD can reduce its overheads and make some more margin.
