Still just waiting on the 2014 nexus 10. I want a decently specced tablet with front facing speakers....all the stupid designers are still focusing on aesthetics rather than functionality
As long as they can keep the bezel small I think this should be great. Their 7s were physically not that much smaller than the available 7.7" or 8" devices elsewhere.
An 8" tablet is a bit too close to a 10" in my opinion, a 7" just about fits in my pockets (can giant pockets be called utility pockets? If so, they're those). Regarding CPUs though I'd definitely like it if Google moved away from qualcomm, I mean here am I with a tegra note 7 tablet I picked up for £90, the tegra 4 SoC in that wipes the floor with a nexus 5 because qualcomm's CPU cores are still afaik somewhere between A9 and A15 performance. Nvidia has its own problems of course and we all remember what the nexus 2012 was like, at the same time their tegra 5 reference platform (an upgraded tegra note 7) looks promising.
The bulk of buyers are split between the haves and have nots. Either have the money for an iPad mini, or have not got the money for an iPad mini. Those in the latter camp will then go for the cheapest tablet out there whilst still offering a relatively good tablet experience.
The 7" form factor is perfect. Not too big not too small. I REALLY liked my 2013 Nexus 7 but couldn't live with that dodgy touch screen (mis-touches) - Had three returns before I finally gave up! Google just made it worse by attempting to cover hardware flaws with software reconfigs - no wonder nobody wants their Nexus 7!!!.
I've got a Samsung Note 10.1 cheap refurbished (about £200ish), the front facing speakers are a treat compared to the very tinny 'pretty' tablets. I bought it mainly for the wacom digitizer and sketchbook pro which is great for on-the-go sketches. I don't think I could deal with anything smaller though. I had a play of my brother's nexus 7 and it just seems too small, the screen size doesn't fare as well on the eyes with video... maybe I'm biased or just plain old. I think the larger form factor works better as a mobile browsing unit. Just sling it in a bag as opposed to having a chunky 7-8" crammed precariously into a coat pocket. And having looked at the ipad iterations, I dont just dont get why people proclaim it being the epitome of tablets.
I have an iPad mini (mk1) and a LG Gpad. Both have their plus and minus points.
From a hardware point the ipad is 4:3, the Gpad is 16:9. For me the Gpad is better for watching film, the ipad better for internet browsing.
The ipad does fit better in a small bag and it does feel and look nicer than the Gpad yet if i had to get rid of one it would probably be the ipad.
Android on an ipad mini would be great if the ipad also had a micro sd slot.
It would not surprise me if Google went with LG and had an updated Gpad renamed Nexus 8 with a higher resolution display and please have a micro sd slot or at least a 64GB model.
That.
I don't want an iPod, mini or otherwise. But for that matter, I'm not buying a Google product either, at least, not directly. But for that matter, given how annoyed I am with MS over Win8, I'm not buying a tablet with win8 on it, either. The same applies to phones.
That leaves me with ..... a bit of a problem.
This, Saracen?
Please note, nail varnish is not mine.
If ASUS (/Google) can create a small, light 8 incher, then that would be attractive.
That said, I'll be moving to 8", but it will be Windows based.
