Dislike the idea of such a thick desk, seems to impact leg space quite a bit. Although saying that, it does seem rather compelling!
The top section looks fairly reasonable and I like the glass top and removable keyboard tray but those legs make it look incredibly cheap, tacky and fragile, looks like something you'd find in a school. Also the 'Headphone Rack' looks like a coat hangar's been stuck on the side. I'd of also liked to have seen some better cable management for the legs as its such an open design.
Don't think I'd feel very safe putting a high end PC in there and I can also see this being rather expensive. Just hope you never trip over a cable as you'll bring the whole thing down and kill the lot!
This definitely, looks good.
I was considering such a build, but I was thinking of crafting it myself to be more specific.
However, if this doesn't cost as much as a mid-range card, I might consider buying this instead.
But that crafting thing, I would really much like to experience that sort of thing. I could even put in my own ideas...
My heart is saying yes, but my brain says no lol
It certainly looks better than the previous version they were showing ! although it still seems to be on the small side.
I can't help but feel that when loaded with gear the 'drawer' will cause the whole thing to topple forwards when opened unless there's some hefty counterweight at the back.
That and it's fugly. Like some sort of futuristic reboot of an old school desk like wot I had when I were a lad...
How on earth would I take that to a LAN?
Diablo (Main PC): Corsair Air 540; Gigabyte Z77-D3H; i5 3570k @ 4.4Ghz; 16Gb Corsair Vengeance PC3-12000; 120Gb Samsung 840 EVO; EVGA 980 Ti Hybrid; 2x Dell U2414H; Windows 10 x64.
Imperius (VM Server): 2x Intel 5640, 64Gb RAM, 2x1Tb, 6x Intel NIC, VMware ESX 5.5
Tyrael (File Server): Synology DS410 w/ 4x HD154UI; 2Gb RAM; DSM 5.2
I hope they tested it with radiators in because it seems like the extra weight of a radiator at the front could cause some issues. I suspect that without a heavy radiator at the front the PSU and motherboard being positioned close to the back would make for a well balanced desk.
I am surprised there is no option for 5.25" bays, seems like there is space.
Considering how much that is likely to cost (I'm betting £10 per cm of width), the way the legs are 'stuck on' with their oversized rubber feet (which will be there to stop the reverberations on the floor) it looks rather cheap.
The 'keyboard shelf' is really poorly thought out, they could have had it so it hinged down instead of just being stuck on (yes I know the keyboard would need sticking somewhere).
Also it looks like it will be pretty unstable with the pc drawer pulled out, all the weight would be sticking out a good 40cm meaning it could easily tip over unless the screen(s) are heavy enough to counter balance it.
I reckon I could come up with a more aesthetically pleasing design in a week....
Not all the weight, if the heavier components are situated towards the rear they would be close to the front legs and contribute very little to the weight hanging over. Effectively what is important is how far the weight is from the front legs and how that weight is distributed in the drawer that is extended.
When you close a door you'll notice it is easy using the handle situated far from the hinges but if you move closer to the hinges the effort required to close the door becomes greater. The same principle applies with the weight of the desk; Because it will be pretty heavy its self weight can counteract the extended draw if empty. When full the components will add weight but where that weight is situated makes a big difference to the stability. From the pictures it looks like the motherboard and PSU are not situated at the front which would of caused problems, they seem to be situated at the rear which would mean their weight, when the drawer is extended, would be close to the front legs and thus not cause enough of a moment to exceed the self weight of the desk that is behind the front legs.
Don't see why anyone would want this outside of perhaps an industrial lab / workstation environment?
i would love to have this but knowing its Lian Li, its gonna cost an arm and a leg and maybe a kidney too...
Seems like it will be hard to adopt good usage with the chair arms level with the keyboard unless using the shelf and pulling monitors to the front (too far back otherwise) and then wasting a lot of the desk surface. The keyboard shelf looks too small for a comfort or ergonomic one and where do the wires go if you prefer a wired set.
That just looks like a school desk to me. This one looks much better but what a price.
