I won't. Word was pants then, and it isn't much better now. Word gained domination because Wordperfect Corporation were slow to catch up rather than because it was a better product. Slick marketing beat product quality - but then, not for the first time. Microsoft were very slow to release the Windows API, (and didn't publish all of them) giving them a competitive advantage.

To all the FOSS and anti-M$ fanatics who are itching to comment on this article: what if, instead of repeating your spiel yet again, you pretend that you have written and the rest of us pretend that we have read it? The result the will be exactly the same (not a damn thing), but it'll save bandwidth, wear and tear on fingers, and aggravation. How about it?

Interesting you say this, because most people I know felt the same to be true of Excel.
The point is, that office became amazing with OLE, the ability to embed, and then edit the documents was amazing.
I appreciate certain aspects of say LATEC but the reality is, word is a top notch product. Over-priced, yes, but it's much better than any of the alternatives!
