I run custom icon sets on my Android phone, but these look pretty nice. I'm not a huge fan of the 'flat' design they used in IOS 7, but this doesn't look as bad.
iOS5 introduced flat icons........I smell another lawsuit!

Everyone hates on Windows Phone and yet they are all copying the flat look of it
I agree the current ones are better looking, but the "new" ones are not too bad. The G+, Hangouts and YouTube ones look a bit cheap.
Seems to be a trend towards blandness

I like the new ones
The move seems to be towards more softer looking icons, almost cartoonish and sort of touchy feely rather than the more technical minimalist look.
I must be getting old, starting to hate change hah
I really don't like the trend to "go flat" in software at the moment - Apple's horrible iOS7 makeover (whats with the blue "debug" style text all over the place? Boring flat icons), Microsoft with removing all the "prettiness" from Windows 8 with flat everything, no more transparency etc, and now Google following the trend.
Ok it's less of an issue with Android, as it doesn't exactly look pretty out of the box anyway (always keeps that home made "linux" look) but still, I don't get the trend.
Don't worry this is a cycle, people take a style too far and then everyone rebels and goes in the opposite direction. Happened with Skeu, no doubt will happen again.
New icons. So important. Now my life is complete.
I'm surprised there is no theme engine with vanilla android.
