Nice to know my aging 520 will still be updated, a far call form what budget andriod phones get.
Impressive support from Microsoft on Mobile. Hoping they may extend this free upgrade to Windows 8/8.1 users on desktops too =) I have heard rumours about it, but will believe it when it actually happens =)
The cynic in me would jump on the lack of mention of the word "Nokia" to mean that this announcement only applies to the just-announced Microsoft Lumia's - but I hope I'm being stupidly cynical and it's just shorthand for all Lumias. The optimist would wonder - loudly - how come Microsoft can support devices over 24 months old, yet an Android phone of similar vintage is going to be left out in the cold. I mean the equivalent is like saying that the Galaxy S3 is going to get Android L! (which would be nice). Thus Microsoft has officially confirmed that "there will be Windows 10 upgrades for all Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices" in a public Tweet. ... The first handsets running Windows Phone 8 were released as far back as September 2012 yet even the cheapest entry-level handsets, such as the Lumia 520, will be in line to receive an OS update.
Having the update available and your phone still being usable arent the same thing though.
Impressive that my humble Lumia 620 will be getting this. Microsoft are getting pretty assertive with Windows 10.
Say what you like about Windows Phone, they have at least made a concerted effort to keep up a steady stream of updates to as many people as possible. I've had my Lumia 830 for nearly two years and the OS is vastly superior now to when I got the phone, and it looks like the updates are going to keep on coming - so I'm a happy customer

I will say from the current performance of my 520 vs my nephews 1020 (ie they runs as slick as each other) if 10 is as slick on the top end devices it will just fine on the bottom end devices.
Of course I can't confirm this but this is the reason I went windows in the first place as the budget models aren't hobbled in normal use.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
I'd argue that they only stated Lumia and not Nokia Lumia or Microsoft Lumia because it covers both of them. But only time will tell, fingers crossed though!
Well I was holding of buying a 1520 because I though it would get left in the dark by Microsoft - Off I go to the shop (or online)
Going out phone shopping with the Mrs later, she has been very happy with her 710 for the past couple of years, but a change of network and some cheap Nokia deals make it worth an upgrade. I have always been impressed with Lumia phones, especially the OS.
I have a Windows 8.1 PC.
I have a Windows Phone 8.1 Lumia (two in fact).
I am looking at installing the Windows 10 Preview on my PC.
I hadn't yet connected the dots to think about what would happen to my Lumia, given that Windows 10 is still in Preview and I just wanted to have a play with it, but now that the topic has come up I find it reassuring and I'm pleased to read about this.
Oh, I'm not worried yet. And its not performance alone that becomes an issue over time, its features, particularly hardware related ones.
Of course, unlike the cesspool of Android, Windows phones are at least fairly similar and limited on what features they can randomly add.
I'd think it would probably be more of an issue for the 512MB phones, especially given how some games and apps havent worked on them in the past.
But at least theyre supporting them, my 925 will probably the phone ive kept the longest and still had updates.
I hope they update the 1020 and fix the slow camera issues
