The Bing Translate app on Windows Phone was pretty good at this, and still is, its just a same the app has gone a pile of rubbish in the last update

.... Google Translate is already a great app to have when you're travelling in a foreign country, but the upcoming updates may make it into an essential travellers' tool.

This traveller has managed 50 years of travel, all over the world, without it so I think I can continue to manage without. Besides, I wouldn't give that Spawn of Satan, Google, the time of day, let alone my location data. Hell will freeze over first.

Not so much 'essential' as 'no way' for me.

But for those who aren't paranoid about personal 'data' that has little to no practical use, I'm sure it will be a great tool to have .
