I've still got a bunch from last Christmas to play! lol.. I may get a couple still though.
I have around 20 games on my steam wishlist that have not been discounted enough yet.
Dynasty Warriors 8
Viscera Cleanup Detail
Farcry 4
This war of mine
Shadow of mordor
Metal gear rising revengeance
Alien Isolation
Road Redemption
Wolfenstein The new order
Deadfall Adventures
Sniper Elite 3
Metro Last Light Redux
And so on and on.
Some Christmas events have already started, with gems being created from items like backgrounds, and can be used to buy booster packs of cards, or towards bids in auctions for games. Most of the bids are already way over the top though. The winter sale trading cards can now be crafted and sold too.
License not buy - Steam is a retailer of software licenses and perhaps a lot less than that with DLC - Gateway Host Provider and Advertiser more like. This Santa has nothing in his sack, does not own what is being sold and never accepts a return on faulty goods.

What price level are you looking for? Some of these are pretty cheap already if you shop around.
Metro Last Light Redux is 50% off at £8.49 right now on the Steam store, same for Metro 2033 Redux.
Alien: Isolation is £11.98 at UGS http://www.unlimitedgamestore.com/al...en%20isolation
Shadow of Mordor, £14.27 http://www.unlimitedgamestore.com/mi...%20of%20mordor
Wolfenstein is £14.38 via the cheapest reseller at Kinguin http://www.kinguin.net/category/6602...rder-steam-key or again, UGS has it at £15.85
I won't carry on hunting the others, but it's a good idea to keep an eye on all the other shops for Steam keys. I'd understand if you're not so keen on a G2A/Kinguin/UGS options due to the occassional controversies and rumours, but I've never had a problem with them - just make sure you keep an eye on the region you're buying for, and double-check that it doesn't require a Russian VPN to activate.
Aside from them, watch:

Actually there's only one I want to buy this season, Beyond Earth, everything else this year has been pretty mediocre or unexciting.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
well don't think i will be buying any as i have loads from last year and with Elite Dangerous being released on Tuesday, i will be busy.
There's actually nothing I really want presently. I am a big Borderlands fan but the Pre Sequel hasn't really peaked my interest so will be waiting for an inevitable GOTY and rock bottom price next year. Other than that I would probably be looking for things like Delta Force XTreme as I have all the other games already and maybe picking up the last few expansions for the original Ghost Recon. I may pick up Wasteland 2 if it has a decent discount, always dubious with turn based combat in games, some I just can't get away with like Temple of Elemental Evil , others though like XCom Enemy Unknown and Shadowrun Returns I have really enjoyed so Wasteland 2 has to be cheap enough.
I do have a huge wishlist but most the stuff on it I can honestly say is when I have seen something that has peaked my interest and I just add it to the wishlist.
Thanks for that Otherhand, Metro last light is close to the price i'm looking for, I am hoping it hits 75% off in the sale and everything else basically being between £5-£10.
I have used kinguin before but since steam changed their gift policies I decided it'd be safer just to buy direct from Steam or GMG, and humble are always sending emails so I usually see what they have on sale.
That's a great price on Alien Isolation though, i'm quiet tempted to grab that.

I'll read a few reviews about sniper elite 3 before I get it then, I've only seen totalbiscuit's WTF video for it so far and thought it looked pretty good, you have made me think twice though.
I've not played the original last light only the original 2033, so I thought i'd get the last light with the slightly better graphics engine. I am a graphics whore but I draw the line at buying the same game twice so 2033 redux is out for me.
Not overly fussed with the Steam sale, the last few have been pretty meh really
They come from the dark and slice your head off
Mediocre and unexciting is a good description of Beyond Earth. It's a Civ reskin, rather than the different direction Alpha Centuri was.
Good point. Please point me towards any retailer of PC software that sells me the actual software rather than just a licence. Good luck.

Btw I know it gets mentioned every so often but for those that don't know about it: http://www.enhancedsteam.com/
Its a plugin for Chrome/FireFox that when you go to the steam website it gives you more information such as current lowest price (on any website), historical low, lets you add just unowned DLC to cart etc.
