Would be interesting to see. Though I'm stumped as to how they'd make it any smaller.

Considering they make up part of the HMCC would it not be better to wait on that technology instead?

Will this just encourage graphics card manufacturers to add more memory? They are starting to resemble watchmakers in the early 20th century, adding unnecessary jewels just to have more than the competition.

4K gaming will require additional memory.

Re: Samsung starts to mass produce 8Gb GDDR5 DRAM

I guess this is samsungs last upgrade to gddr5 as amd and nvidia are both moving to stacked HBM memory that blows gddr5 out of the water. GM200 is the last gpu we will see with gddr5 so maybe the big maxwell will come with 8GB of this at 8Ghz on a 512 bit bus. That would be pretty awesome.

Maybe not - they've invested money in this technology and they will want to maximise revenues from this. When GPU's stop using GDDR5, the next step might be to see if this can be then used as system main memory since it's very fast (remarket it as DDR4?). Maybe not as I'm aware that there is quite a bit of difference between GDDR and normal DDR memory.

Exactly. Between 4K, UltraWide, Eyefinity, 'Retina' resolutions... video RAM has become much more important.
