Nah, they're just trying to cash in a bit more before people stop buying due to announcements of the 3## series.

Hopefully this is AMD's AIB partners trying to use up GDDR5 stocks because of HBM!

    Re: Sapphire reveals 8GB Tri-X R9 290X graphics card

AA is the thing which sucks up the most VRAM, however at 4K the need for AA is largely negated by the resolution, so I think I'd rather go for a pair of 970s than 2 of these for 4K gaming.

    Re: Sapphire reveals 8GB Tri-X R9 290X graphics card

Oh also, as nobody else has said it (maybe because everyone already knows it, but just in case)

The 4x increase in resolution doesn't mean a 4x increase in VRAM usage because the textures used are not 4x bigger. The textures are of a set size and are scaled for resolution, so they don't automatically take up 4x the amount of VRAM.

I'm a bit fuzzy on the exact workings on it, so if you've got more knowledge on the subject please flesh this out.

Oh this looks very nice. Although out of my price range. £300-£315 is the sweet spot for me.
