Re: Apple unveils super-slim 12-inch MacBook with Retina display

the apple tax is getting higher and higher. Also you pay that price and you need to pay more to have basic functionality like having a usb device on the laptop and charging it at the same time?
What happened to form follow function?

On the plus side, this laptop have a core M, which is very underpowered for today standards and because of that I hope that the next OSX (or the current) will have to get more light.
This will benefit my aged macbook 6.1 and give it some more years of life.

A lot of other tech websites are reporting the screen resolution to be 2304 x 1440 (is the 2340x1440px in this article a typo?).

Wow, I'm quite disappointed with this. The Macbook Air used to be a programmers laptop of choice! Apple have underpowered it slightly with each revision under the guise of "better battery performance" and now this glorified iPad with a keyboard...

Apple must really want to sell more Macbook Pro's as there really wasn't any point of getting a pro when the Air was just so good.

Other than it being thinner again (yawn) and losing features being sold as a plus why would you want this?

Re: Apple unveils super-slim 12-inch MacBook with Retina display

At first I was like this is horrible, one USB port is bad, downgrade on the CPU as well.

The more I think of it the more I am changing my mind, this is a first gen product so yea dont buy it.

But this with Skylake / DDR4, a extra USB port and $100 off the list price and it would be spot on.

That said Dell and Lenovo have better machines out at the moment and probably will do again come Skylake

Yeah, wait for version 2 to fix things - add another USB Type C port for example, a faster processor, and wide availability of cheap third party USB C docks. At least this has moved to a standard connector.

OTOH for an overspecced tablet/keyboard the 8GB RAM, 256/512GB SSD is not too bad. £100 or so cheaper ...

Myself, the Pro form factor is more sensible.

What is the point of only having 1 usb on any device other than a phone? It just seems to be another self gloryfying product with apple again ignoring the consumer.

This "Macbook" doesn't seem to be replacing the Air and the most recent Air spec's are still pretty good. So I'll take back what I said! Still, this desperately needs a thunderbolt port so you can connect it to external displays...

Re: Apple unveils super-slim 12-inch MacBook with Retina display

For me this is the perfect work machine. Enough power to get work done, large enough screen with a good resolution and long battery life.

But agreed with the above, the air is a much better buy. The 11 inch especially

I still think the Dell XPS13 2015 is a better thing to put your money towards (with change to spare).

^ Disagree. I own an XPS 13, and it's wonderful.

It does not get the 12 hours of a Air but since when has 7+ hours been considered crappy? and not well built? have you seen the thing? I would argue it may be built better than a Air.

Indeed. Reviews slated the bad battery at 7.5hours but I'm ok with that - most reviewers said that they were happy in day to day work to be running the screen @ 30% brightness (due to how bright the screen is) where as the battery tests run at 60%+.

    One port.... seriously?

I hope the charger will come with some extra ports on it or something because that is pushing things too far IMO.

Also I would like to point out that the mag safe connectors are NOT popular... have a look at the charger reviews on the Apple store.
