Yeah I see your point, it was a bit wooden, a lead balloon... perhaps they just felt like showing how chunky what they have got is by comparison to an old fashioned shaft.

Far too chunky to use as a pen, a highlighter on the other hand.... why didn't their marketing team think of that?
