That's...
Really cool.
But that's it. Do you really think anyone's going to actually make one? What about the other real problems AMD has? XD

How about spending time and money on core problems before turning to fluff?

So... I hope this was just an afterthought and not the reasoning behind not allowing custom coolers on the Fury X yet, the latter would be just plain stupid.
This might have some interesting results though, will be interesting to see what custom plates people come up with. Not sure I'd ever bother with myself though, especially due to the card needing watercooling.

I can't imagine it took long/cost much. they presumably would already have the CAD for the plate so just a case of converting it to a 3d printer format (which they probably already have a process for when doing the R&D on the card as I bet they prototyped the cooler on a CNC machine.). Probably came out of the marketing budget too...
There're enough reasons for me to debut AMD's APU and liquid cooled GPU.
This is great for the 100 people that buy a fury x, of those the 20 that have easy access to a 3D printer, the 5 that are interested in doing it, and the 1 guy that actually does it.

Maybe someone will come up with a plate that will quieten down that high pitched noise apparently plaguing the Fury X.
Why do you need a CNC machine or 3D printer? Just measure the size of the plate, cut whatever material you want to size and then drill 4 holes. As for the star screws, why do they do that? Pointless. Use a philips head or an allen key screw.

take file export to stl in most cases, tweak settings if you really want to, but in all honestly it takes a few seconds lol
stp is usually the same.
I like the idea but it's in a location most people aren't going to actually see...having said that, if you know what you're doing in 3d program you could potentially use it as a mounting point for something else in the case, say an led strip or something else lightweight
At least coil whine is only apparent when something is under high load, i.e when playing a game with headphones on or speakers blaring.
plus
equals solid gold - and costs less than $3.00, and you still have a ton of use left in your Sharpies.

Ooh can you customise it with.... Oh I dunno a Maxwell chipset?
Maybe we'll be able to fabricate the plate whilst waiting on stock. Scan's reporting delayed until the end of July now!
