Posted the finalized Microsoft Software License Terms (aka EULA) over in the Windows subsection of the software subforum, if anyone is interested.

And when Guido says "interested", he means "can be arsed to trek over to the forums, find the sub-forum and find the thread".

Putting it another way, Guido has posted the finalized Microsoft Software License Terms (aka EULA) here .. http://forums.hexus.net/windows/3417...-but-hard.html .. for anyone who's only mildly interested enough to look if taken by the hand.

    You're welcome. ;O)

Can we really call it the final Microsoft Software License Terms (aka EULA) though, Isn't it the RTM EULA?
With enforced updates couldn't Microsoft just roll out an update along with a change in the EULA and the only way to not accept the new EULA would be to stop using the software, Windows as a service may come with plenty of advantages, but it also (imho) comes with a few negatives.

Still not sold on Windows 10... Not that I'm surprised, really. I've liked it less and less pretty much for every new build as it (again) became more and more "tabletified". Also, is it me or is this visually the dullest Windows in ages? I admit it's gotten a bit better these last couple of builds, but the colours are predominantly monochrome. Even Windows 8 didn't seem as lifeless.

So it should be pretty stable to install?

I was gonna wait a month or so before upgrading, but I might reconsider it.

I thought they were trying to steer away from the tablet/mobile style after Windows 8. That's why they brought back the start menu, and the tiles are optional(?) now.

You'll know what I mean once you try out Windows 10. Yes, they brought back the start menu, but with every new build it was turned more and more into a mini start screen. The whole UI screams "mobile" with large fonts and big empty spaces. As with Windows 8, the core OS is a step forward with regard to Windows 7, but for us desktop users the UI is a step back.

The UI is customizable. You can re-do the start menu appearance. You can remove the tiles. No, it doesn't look like Windows 7 or prior. No, it doesn't have the functionality that Saracen and others desire (which I did make it a point of posting feedback on). But it is worlds better than Windows 8, and significantly better than the shiny crap that was Windows 8.1. There are some trade-offs. But they aren't going back to Windows 7. It's not part of their vision. There are third party programs that bring back the functionality, oftentimes better than the original offering.

Win XP started down that slippery slope and I hated it even then. My Win 7 setup looks like Win 2000. Is there any chance that I can recreate that look on Win 10?

It's that "vision" that worries me, especially since they're being coy to the point of evasiveness as to precisely what it is.

As for "better" it depends entirely on your criteria. One criteria, by which IMHO it fails badly, is that MS dictate what "upgrades" happen, when they happen, and do them automatically without giving the user any say in the matter. I can see why that appeals to MS but it sure as hell doesn't appeal one tiny little bit to me. And that alone is bordering on enough for me to reject it, never mind other concerns.

We all know what that vision is, they have been working towards it desperately ever since they realised they were miles behind Apple and Android. Of course, not everyone agrees with it but then they never will. I still remember people ragging on about XPs UI compared to Windows 2000 and that was a marginal change compared to what we have seen since Windows 8 launched.....so I fully expect more people not to like the differences between Windows 7 and everything that has come since.

I didn't like it either but it took maybe 10 hours of computer use to get used to it and find a way for me to work with it. Now it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Adapt and overcome or use something else. For me it's adapt as I want the best gaming support and I need the application support. So Linux and Mac just are not options (yet!). If they are for you, then use them.

Since when? I have been running Windows since 3.0 and have yet to have an upgrade forced on me. If your running Windows XP still, you might feel your being forced into an upgrade due to EOL of the product but you still have the choice to stay on XP.....They are forcing nothing AFAIC.

Re: Microsoft Windows 10 said to have reached RTM milestone

Read the Win10 EULA, shaithis. Upgrades are to be automatic, and by agreeing to the EULA, you consent to this. It's also implicit in their "last ever Windows version" remark. It's the "last version" because from 10 onwards, everybody (on standard consumer licences) gets auto-upgrades.

    So, "since when?" Since Win10.

Re: Microsoft Windows 10 said to have reached RTM milestone

From the thread where Guido posted the EULA, shaithis ...

    ...

Updates. The software periodically checks for system and app updates, and downloads and installs them for you. You may obtain updates only from Microsoft or authorized sources, and Microsoft may need to update your system to provide you with those updates. By accepting this agreement, you agree to receive these types of AUTOMATIC updates without any additional notice.

    ...
The bold, CAPS and red emphasis is mine.

Under that EULA, MS can, and apparently will, perform any "updates" it wishes, with NO option for you to decline. Some categories of licence, according to previous comments, will 'generously' be allowed to "defer" such updates. How long for was not, IIRC, stipulated.
