    Gaming 19" TFT

I currently have a 19" CRT, and switching to 17" TFT would mean I lose an Inch or so, I would rather gain an Inch.

Anyone have good/bad experiences with 19" TFTs? Give me some good models, thanks.

Your current 9600XT would struggle to run a 1600*1200 panel at native res in games.

Personally I feel that 1280*1024 with a 19" panel is a cop-out and not worth the extra £100. I have bought myself a nice 17" TFT to suppliment my 19" iiyama VM Pro 454, its ok for gaming and light enough to lugg to LAN's etc.

    Well, I have a 9600XT and this set up here : http://liz.servepics.com/Gaz-PC

Those are HP f1904 19" panels and they run at 1280 x 1024 native 16ms response.

I find them to be fine for gaming, no ghosting at all, I can play HL2 far cry or whatever no probs at this res, I was using a 21" CRT previously, in all honesty I couldnt go back, if you can afford a nice 19" TFT with a good response I cant see you having any problems with games.

    @Firelord
    Link ?

I would recommend the new Hyundai L90D+ for gaming purposes.
Otherwise the new NEC 1970NX with S-IPS panel.

btw, how can I use an avatar ?

Does anyone know if the Viewsonic VX912 is 16.7 million colours or 16.2 million colours. I think this is quite important as most 19" AND 17" TFT's are 16.2m colours and for digital photographic work this is not very good. I have gone to the Viewsonic Web site and dowloaded the product brochure for the VX912 but their marketing only talks about '16 million colours' - that is very misleading.

I'm trying to find a 19" TFT that displays 16.7m colours (proper 8-bit pixels and not 6-bit) and is rated 16mS or below with a contrast ration of 500:1 or more (average). Plus, it would need to be well below £400 in cost!

Such a monitor does NOT yet exist, regretfully !
You have to make some compromises. You can't buy an all-in-one device suitable for every purpose.

Firstly, you should decide which panel is the best for your applications, either S-IPS, TN or VA.

There exist several 19" SIPS panel TFTs, such as NECs 1970NX, iiyamas 481s, etc. with 25ms, they are mostly as fast as 12/16ms TN panel TFTs, why not buying one of them ?

S-IPS panel TFTs are currently the best all-rounders.

    EDIT: Sorry, I forgot.
The VX912 does not have 16.7 million colours due to its TN panel ! He has only 16.2 colours like all other TN panel TFTs.

    No problem.

And another advantage of the S-IPS technology is the full range of 16.77 million colours.

    Iiyama E481s
    FSC P19-1A
    NEC 1960NXi
NEC 1970NX (successor of the 1960NXi)

These are currently the widely used SIPS gamer TFTs.

But this TFT has a TN panel, too. So the statement is definitely wrong.
