This is a board that I admire from afar. I think it looks awesome but even if I had the money, I'd probably kick myself for spending so much more for not a lot more features than the Asus Z170 A. Which I also think looks awesome.

Looks great, but only 1 ethernet port???? Also, no firewire for our (not particularly legacy) music devices. Bah

It's undoubtedly a good board, but is it really worth $500?

$500 for a gamesumer Z170 board? Whatever you're smoking Asus, please do pass it around.

This would be good but you get Asus's poor support and flawed BIOS thrown into the mix. Money would be better spend at MSI.

Re: ASUS ROG Maximus VIII EXTREME motherboard hits shelves at $500

I've had nothing but Asus ROG products over the past 5 years. Spend $500 to get a product which they will stop supporting as soon as the new version is released 6 months later. Its appaulling.

Currently got a Black Edition Rampage IV which is still on a BETA bios (latest version) from 2014!!! - not worth the premium these boards command tbh. Hell I just got a Phoebus Solo and theres still to be any proper Windows 10 drivers oh and guess what - the strix soundcards are out now so guaranteed Asus won't be interested in supporting us Phoebus users anymore with anything.
