Microsoft Surface Pro 4 becomes available in the UK

But we will have to wait until March/April 2016 to be overcharged for the Surface Book 2-in-1.

I don't think your use of "overcharged" on the blurb for the article is really necessary.

Not fanboying but what warrants your use of "overcharged" for the surface book?

Had to pay £2.5k for a super micro server, was I overcharged because it was expensive or because of feature/£. Or is it because its a unique 2 in 1 offering at the apple Mac Laptop price point? But from Microsoft.

I'm pretty sure it's because of a poor $/£ conversion rate.

Remark was just about the $/£ conversion rate, sorry it wasn't clear.

I was going to say, we always get stiffed by the Dollar to Pound conversion and it's great that the media is recognising it and calling them out.

Oh ok, just read to my eyes as a slam against MS' new pricing model for their upper ranges. I would love a Surface Book but I don't think my boss is ready to bump me up to a 6 figure salary to get past the $/£ ratio.

Re: Microsoft Surface Pro 4 becomes available in the UK

Had a play with both of these at future decoded - lovely machines, especially the Surface Pro 4. The new pen is the first digital pen i've used that actually feels like writng with a real pen - its hard to describe but having used a variety of digital pens in the past, i've never found them quite right for taking notes - its always been easier to just type them up.

They are all expensive devices - but they do ooze quality in the way that Apple devices used to do 5 years ago. I wouldn't feel i've i had overpaid if I dropped £1.5K on the top end model. The thing is I don't really need one - I am typing this on a Dell XPS 13 Dev edition, which has equivalent specifications (skylake i5, 8gb ram, 256 SSD) to the £1000 surface Pro, but it cost me £750. To me, although its really nice I don't need the touch screen and technically not the pen either.

I dont think they area overpriced and they do have a place in the market - unlike for example the iPad Pro, which is the first Apple Device to truely make no sense in the past 20 years!

Re: Microsoft Surface Pro 4 becomes available in the UK

Another very happy Dell XPS 13 DE here, which was roughly £100 cheaper than the equivalent Windows version (after promotion) and is running Arch Linux better than I machine I have ever used with Windows.

Given that Microsoft has attempted to upgrade my desktop to Windows 10 50 times (according to Windows Update history) without my consent, I would no longer contemplate purchasing any hardware (or licensing software) from the company, no matter how desirable it is.

Having said that, my employer has recently bought 20 Surfaces and they are excellent for the particular usage case. Unfortunately the Achilles heel is Windows 8.1 (Windows 10 has not yet been approved for deployment).
