This is getting silly. Monitors are getting bigger and bigger. 37.5" is almost as big as my TV. It feels as though we are in one of the silly "number" wars. Make monitors that actually fit on most people's desks, make them 4K, with 120Mhz refresh.

Mind you my next purchase will probably be an ultra wide format

Displayport 1.3 has been out since 2014.

It's also needed for several of the other displays mentioned in the article anyway.

i have a nice 29" lg ultrawide. very nice it is too. and cheap(ish)

but i agree, 37" is just too big. my other 27" monitor is technically to big for my desk.

But cards with DP 1.3 haven't, at least in the mainstream, neither the 980ti nor the Fury have DP 1.3 ports.

The 37.5" screen is a 21:9 aspect ultra-wide, which means it's the same height as a regular 30" screen, just wider.

as much as I love ultrawide, I would be happy if they just brought 16:10 back.

Those who think these monitors are too big, how many of you run dual screen?
If you dont... you should... for productivity you can spread applications out and for gaming you can keep one eye on teamspeak, friends list, music playlist etc.

If you do... think about actually having all the pixel power of your 2 screens on one big screen. Its certainly much tidier on the desk!

    I've been running a 40" Samsung 400mx-3 monitor for a while.

    Wall mounted of course.

But then I do sit 8ft away from it when gaming

How well do you find that works?

Only one game I play where that matters to me, which is Elite: Dangerous. Playing under Windows 7, the second monitor does odd things. Usually it just goes black, but after being forced to alt-tab out a few times like a single screen user it might start showing something while I am in-game but usually the screen is frozen. Every now and then, I can't work out why, it displays live information kind of like I want it to. I say kind of, because if I mouse over an app in the other screen (the mouse pointer moves as expected) and click then the game on the main screen minimises as it loses focus.

I could drop the game from full screen to windowed and it would work, though I would lose FreeSync if I do that. Might do it anyway.

I'm guessing it is down to how that game is written, but not played many other games in Windows since getting the new main monitor.

Think about it on a desk - height is not usually the problem, width is.

I wouldn't go back from an ultrawide monitor - films look so much better on them. I do wonder if I would be better on with a large single monitor over three smaller units but the ability to split the screens between gaming, teamspeak, music etc is also quite nice.

A 40" 4K screen sounds like a good idea from a scaling point of view, with a PPI ratio the same as a 27" 2560x1440p screen. My dream screen would be a 40" 4K OLED panel with a quick refresh rate and no image burn in.

I have seen this black screen issue before but I'm not sure what caused it. Could be windows, driver, games, GPU.... Never figured it out but it doesn't happen on my R9 290x with win 10. I found that if I waited rather than trying to force it to come back often works.
The mouse locking into the window is a specific game issue. Most don't do this.

Try doing one over the top of the ultrawide with a monitor arm, that's what I do and its a much nicer gaming environment.

You have to upload it somewhere like photobucket then use the [ IMG ] photourl [ /IMG ] tags.

I had a 27" 2560x1440p screen for a couple of years. On Supreme Commander they UI doesn't scale and was just about ok to read. Bought a 4k 40" screen for the sitting room and tried it in here on the same game. It seemed to my eyes that the UI was unconfortably small, could have been that I had the screen further back though. I came to the conclusion I'd need a 55"+ screen to make games without scaling UIs easy on the eyes with me sat about 4 and a half foot away.

I can see going a bit bigger than 27, but that might be too big.
I've often thought about getting a moderately big TV and hooking up via HDMI, just for sh!ts and grins.
