Re: Microsoft launches Windows 10 Update History site

would be nice if they added a link into the 'settings > update & security' page to link to the update notes. so everything's in one nice handy to use place.
like there is in every other version of windows.

maybe add the filesize of the update aswell, for people who are on limited connections.

just some basic quality of life improvements.

Do you mean that they're on the ball in getting critical updates out, or that the updates themselves don't take an age to apply?
Just curious because my rebuilt gaming PC got Windows 10 on Sunday and I've not seen any updates other than a Malicious Software Removal one, and that went in pretty fast (Intel he a core and 32gb memory should have speeded that up though).
Actually quite liking 10 so far, although I seem to have lost Samba access to my router (has an SSD hung off of it)

Not exactly a solution to the above, but one of the nice features of Win 10 (iirc it actually came in with Win 8) is the option to tag network connections as metered if you don't want Windows to download updates whilst using that connection.

Both. If you installed via download or media creation tool the latest version is installed so you won't be seeing many updates

and the get updates from windows and 'pc's on my local network'.... which should work if all the pc's are running windows 10.

I just would like the option to not download select downloads without needing the stupid tool. I've got the updates only 'alerting me' so I can download when I want them and the reboot isn't automatic anymore thanks to gpedit but even so the 'update process' in windows 10 is a downgrade for professional people who need to ensure their pc's are working for work...it shouldn't be this much hassle to run my pc how I want to run it!!

The actual update 'install' process does seem faster than windows 7/8.

Just saw this article. Apparently even the enterprise version can't be stopped from sending info to MS: http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonke...p#301f6d897aa9

    links broken....

Well supposedly MS are still gathering data even after we turn loads off but sometime 'later this year' they'll release an update which gives us more control over what data is sent, including a don't sent anything option... yeah I won't be holding my breath over that either.

*That* I do agree with. I kind of understand why you'd remove some of those options in the home version, but in the Professional version there's no good reason to hide those options in group policy only, without any access to them through the UI. Hide them behind an "advanced users" only panel by all means, but give me the option to download/install/restart when it's convenient for me!

At the minute I've got my laptop set to ask me when to schedule the restart, which at least gives me some control over the process...

I think that may have been down to the personal nature of some of the medias "analysis" on what he posted, there's an archived version of what he posted here if anyone is interested.
