    Re: Vulkan 1.0 specification released

Looks like Nvidia have drivers available: https://developer.nvidia.com/Vulkan

Bit harder to find at AMD: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-arti...lkan-beta.aspx

So, do the Nvidia demos work on the AMD drivers I wonder

so, is this gonna affect games/apps already using opengl or mantle or is this in preparation for new games/apps made in vulkan (instead of opengl or mantle)?

Looks like no Windows 7 driver from Nvidia. That's gonna piss off a lot of people for sure.

Sounds like a Vulkan version of the Talos Priciple is available in Steam, with DOTA 2 imminent.

They will come, it was hinted all the way down to XP not that long ago.

No Linux AMD drivers is more of a disappointment. Come on AMD, you even had a couple of months extra time to get something lined up...

Edit: Phoronix has been playing with the Linux drivers. The article says not to expect performance when games engines are optimised for DX11 still, but I was more hoping for games just existing under Linux I can always buy extra performance if it matters that much to me. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...ulkan-10&num=1

No, this is a new API, it needs to be used in games, so unless if old games released a patch to support it then it will not be used.

They needed to get it out as Nintendo will be releasing info on the NX this year. I think there is a good bet they will be using it as part of that. Hence Nintendo joining the Khronos group.

I had a quick play around with the Talos Principle and AMD's driver last night - compared to DX11 I was getting higher average framerates, but the framerate also fluctuated more with a couple of nasty dips.
Completely unscientific of course, just me wandering around the same area with FPS display switched on. It's also very early days for both the drivers and the spec.

Nice, I only got as far as downloading the game on Windows as I had only played it under Linux before. Kind of ironic, interest in a cross platform driver spec has made me install another Windows game

Still, I was expecting nothing but demos for a while yet so even if it needs a little work that sounds promising. How many DX12 games are there actually released so far?

Intel have released an open source driver: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...lkan-Published

No idea, but Dolphin committed a DX12 backend a couple of days ago - https://dolphin-emu.org/download/dev...7c6c3783252a6/
Here's the thread that started it all, with some performance graphs - https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Threa...n-dx12-backend

I wonder how easy it is to port between Vulkan and DX12? Hopefully it's much simpler than GL <---> DX.

Those Dolphin graphs are most interesting, shows how bad the AMD OpenGL drivers still are.
