AMD should have launched it with the i7 and i5 cores, many could have been sold since August last year.

Actually kind of both missing the point. It was always a concept model. It would've been hugely expensive due to the complex watercooling loop, manufacturing in two separate "boxes", and the fact that it would've essentially have to be built bespoke because they didn't really have enough GPUs for the cards they did want to sell, let alone stick two inside a custom chassis and risking not shifting inventory. Using those same GPUs for a retail Pro Duo card that they can sell directly to integrators and system builders is going to be a far more profitable venture, as well as a better use of limited inventory.
What they will have done is learned a lot of lessons about system design and the kinds of thermal output they can deal with in enclosed spaces - that kind of experience would be very useful for a company that is interested in selling solutions to, say, console vendors...?
