Ooh, that's nice - it makes a nice change from corsair's tactic of using colours to differentiate performance levels, this should help people colour-code their PC on a budget

RANDOM question... can use DDR3 standard voltage (1.5v) and DDR3L (1.3v) at the same time in a HP laptop that came with DDR3L 4gb?. (Q2) if a you have DDR4 2133MHZ can you add a DDR4 2800MHz module on the board?

not sure about Q1 but Q2 you can add a higher frequency module but both will operate at the speed of the lowest frequency module (ie. 2133MHz)

I'm not sure how long this has been a thing, but Corsair are currently offering several different colours, all at the same price.

hm the ram looks sexy but i hope the price point is appealing. With my black and white build, a little salty that Kingston hasn't brought their white fury ram. This could definitely stand as a replacement if its not some silly overpriced "performance" ram.

A1. Tricky to say definitively, but I'd suggest that HP wouldn't have fitted L type memory if the normal stuff would have worked. If it was me then I'd try checking th HP site for a service manual for guidance. Failing that surely putting your model id into Crucials memory selector would be a good backup?
DDR3L isn't actually that difficult to get, I needed it for an Intel NUC the other day and both Maplin and PC World had it in stock.

A2. That should work fine*, although both modules will run at 2133, although I know someone who did that but managed to upclock the slower memory to match he new modules. For complete safety though why not see how much you can get for the slower memory from CEX and then use what you get to offset the cost of a larger set of the faster memory? (* I did hear/read of someone who ran into timing mismatches, but he must have been pretty unlucky - might be worth checking for this before purchasing)

Back to the article, it's a nice idea but I'm holding out for a cost effective 32gb set with lights (Ballistix Tracer style)

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Hi it will work but you will get an error message every time you start your Laptop up that says you can damage your laptop if you use standard DDR3 modules. I have done it to my work HP probook 470 g2

I would surges just getting a cheap Kingston DDR3L 16x2 kits and using that instead.
