"What can less than $200 buy you?"

A reasonable Windows 8 laptop from eBay that features more storage and, probably, more ram than this machine.

I think on an 11.6" display it is fine.

Or put it another way, 4 of those panels together would be 23.2" and more than 1440p which I expect most people wouldn't complain about.

It doesn't matter what size the screen is, its not about the pixel density, its about how many pixels there are. Its simply not enough pixels to be usable in a world being built around 1080p as a minimum standard.

Then I suspect you are not the target market

Much though I love lots of pixels, to get that on a desktop I have a 27" monitor and I don't think that is going to fit in a kids backpack or be cheap.

I would totally agree that the 15.6" panels at this resolution are a joke, not small enough to be properly portable and massive pixels.

The latest machine at home has a 1280x800 10.1" panel, I find that is just usable as a laptop (not tried it as a tablet which may be better). My phone is a 720p on a 5" panel, and for my old eyes that is way higher DPI than I can see even on a device I am holding much closer than a laptop display would ever be.

So out of interest, what resolution would you put on an 11.6" laptop display?

I got my GF the Toshiba Sat click mini which has a 1080p panel in 8.9" and its entirely usable. She is blind as a bat (she is going out with me afterall!)so if its suitable for her then I suspect it will be suitable for anyone.

Windows scaling is still terrible... but it is at the point now that its good enough for ultra portables. I'm still not a fan of 4k screens in less than 40" with Windows scaling though.

Windows is utter garbage on low-end hardware.
