EA Origin beta client offers new look, efficient functionality

Some reckon its been heavily 'influenced' by the GOG Galaxy client.

Wow a menu on the left that lets you quickly pick stuff, it must have been heavily influenced by umm Windows 95. No amount of UI overhaul is going to make Origin into Steam as much as EA would like it to. I fire up Origin once in a blue moon for the few EA games that force me to use it otherwise I wish it would piss off and stop keep creating an empty Program Files directory on my D drive.

I have never found Origin is as bad as the wrap it gets. Pointless....sure. Though a UI overhaul is long overdo.

Yeah it works just fine, it is as you say another pointless app you must install if you want to play EA games just because EA had a hissy fit at Valve and Gaben wouldn't budge. UPlay is worse but at least then if you are like me you can have your million Assassin's Creeds on Steam with the rest of your game library.

Battlefield Hardlime:Criminal Activity DLC is free at the moment by the way. The new UI does look a bit better..next is the Battlefield 4/Hardline/1 UI make over.

Re: EA Origin beta client offers new look, efficient functionality

Is there an option to remove the store entirely? I prefer my games to come without adware.

Although as long as they keep the option to have Origin start up and shut down in the background at the same time as the game then I'll keep using it. If they start popping up trading cards and other third party stuff in the corner then it'll be another obtrusive middleware I'll be avoiding.

CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

Re: EA Origin beta client offers new look, efficient functionality

I'll be happy when it integrates better with Steam. If the client becomes fully controllable with either a game controller or the keyboard that would be a good start. Until then, it's just more of the same. The last time I used Origin it was forgetting my login credentials every single time I rebooted my PC - I hope that's fixed now.
And that's the bottom line. No, the other one. The one under that one.

Cannot care less about it... useless software I had to install and unfortunatelly i have to open sometimes to play EA games.
I just need one feature in it, that will allow me to uninstall it and play all games fully!

Same here - I rate it as "worse than Steam but nicer than uPlay". Then again if having it on the PC gets me free stuff (the "On the House") then I'm okay with it. Still at least it's not as cranky/creaky as it used to be. That said, Steam seems to want a restart to install an update pretty much every time I launch it these days. <grrr>

Re: EA Origin beta client offers new look, efficient functionality

Long ago I decided that if I'm going to be forced into a DRM hell by the computer games industry to be able to participate, I'd never bother leaving the confines of a single DRM hell. To this day, I've managed to resist even downloading Origins, let alone installing it, let alone the spyware hell that is an Ubisoft game.

Re: EA Origin beta client offers new look, efficient functionality

What I'd like to know is have they finally put an option in to install to a different folder per game? I know you can change the install folder, install something, change it again etc, and it keeps things in the different locations, but it'd be far easier to get an option to select the folder when installing.

It looks like a nicer interface, all modern rounded edges on search boxes and stuff. As long as my games still work, I'll be happy enough. (so I'll wait for full release and not mess things up with the beta version).
