and even those of us who aren't petrol heads wouldn't say no to something like a shiny, new Volvo XC90.
I think most petrolheads aren't particularly interested in a chelsea tractor. A Land rover, maybe on the other hand

Re: QOTW: Which car do you drive?

It used to be a Peugeot RCZ 1.6 GT. Looked great, practical for 2 people (boot was actually really big), had a good level of equipment, a leather covered dashboard and interior as standard and was fairly good value. However, the suspension was very stiff and the B-road I use for commutting is very bumpy and generally made it uncomfortable. I also split the sidewall of a tyre going over a pothole.

So last month I changed it for a Fiesta Zetec S 123bhp EcoBoost; and it's great! Handles the bumps a lot more comfortably but still handles well. It's also narrower so I don't ahve to fold the wing mirrors in to get it into my garage! It's economical (zero road tax and I average a bit over 50mpg) and I managed to get mine for £10,000 for a year old with 2 years' warranty left and under 10k miles. However, there were very few with any options on it, so I had to get a "yellow" one (more like "hungover urine") to get cruise control, parking sensors, auto lights/wipers and SatNav. But I have come to like the colour now; certainly more than the turd brown one that was the other option at the time!

An example of the colour: -

Potentially a Ford Mustang if Ford UK can actually get their act together to bring down the waiting times.

Re: QOTW: Which car do you drive?

As a bit of a petrol head it's the opposite, my favoured car (out of the two), an eighteen year old Rover 200 Coupe (1.8VVC) that I've had these past twelve years, has very little in the way of tech, remote central locking, ABS, hydraulic power steering, syncro-mesh on the gears, fully independent suspension (so superior to a number of modern cars that have regressed to torsion beam set ups) and all round disc brakes is about it (barring an old JVC head unit that I've had for ooo... fourteen years or so). It provides an entertaining drive through a well engineered chassis that doesn't rely upon technology to keep it on the road, there is no technology like stability control to keep the driver out of trouble, it's just me, my reactions and the car.

My other car, a 2009 Alfa Romeo 159Ti, has quite a few of the modern bits n' bobs (not as much as as the C Class I had before it mind, that heap had sensors in the bloody windscreen washer bottle). It has bluetooth, never used, has a built in USB which I use to play music with from a boggo cheap USB stick. As for the other more fundamental bits of tech on the car - the power steering is electric and numb though it is well weighted so it's acceptable, throttle response (throttle by wire) without feel or as sharp a reaction. It has four pot Brembo brakes, while they stop the car well enough they, like the steering is also without feel (the Rovers are better, you need to actually press the pedal hard to stop the car hard and can feel the action) it's also an oil burner (diesel) so it has all kinds of clean air clobber on it that means it's average fuel consumption, at the same speed as the Rover (keeping in mind the Alfa has a six speed box, geared for economy, while the Rovers five speed box is geared for performance not economy), is only equal to the Rover, around 40-42mpg.

In many ways my views are somewhat skewed by the fact my first cars had non of the modern clobber that most have grown up with (Austin Metro's x2 a '89 and '91, an '86 205GRD, a '91 Clio, a '96 Rover 214SEi, my first car with remote central locking and leccy windows, '98 Rover 200 Coupe, '07 C Class, this put me off Merc's for life, and then the '09 Afla) expect and actively use. Would I jump at the chance of owning a new Volvo XC90? no... well maybe but it 'd be up for sale without me even getting behind the wheel.

The fact is I'm old school, I enjoy driving despite the knuckle dragging morons on the road (two of which I've had a run ins in the past two days), I loath the stupid amounts of tech being bolted on to cars, it distracts the driver and removes the connection between the driver and the car. Worst of all? touchscreens, what cretinous moron thought putting technology that you actually have to actively look at and study, because you sure as hell can't use them by feel alone even with haptic feedback i.e. forcing the user to take their eyes off the road in front of them, is a good thing? (I don't use GPS, just a map, looked at before I set off, and a damned good sense of direction). My ideal car is very much in the Morgan/Caterham/lower level Lotus or a classic like an Alfa GT Junior mould I'm afraid, as in very little in the way of tech, it's just a pity I can't afford them.

Re: QOTW: Which car do you drive?

Jaguar XE (petrol). I decided to swap the raw power of my BMW M135i for the comfort and technology of a Jag..and i've not looked back

Pleasure to drive, gadgets galore and it looks great too..can't really complain. Had it for a year now, and have not got itchy feet just yet...I tend to keep cars for 18-24 months before swapping (one of the benefits of a PCP deal, its easy to swap to a new car when you hit the equity stage). This one is a keeper! (for now..).

Best gadget/feature is the remote app for it - in the winter this is a godsend as I can start the cars heater when I am having breakfast, and by the time I leave the house 10 min later it's toasty warm and all defrosted The same applies in reverse in the summer - when it gets to 5:20 I turn the air conditioning on from the app, and the car is lovely and cool when I leave the office. It also allows me to download my journeys from the app, which makes mileage claims a lot easier. I wouldn't want another car without that feature now.

Re: QOTW: Which car do you drive?

Black 2013 Holden SSV Redline series 1, Think that would make it a Chevrolet SS or SSV over in the US.
    6.0 litre V8, 6 speed auto roughly 0-100 4.8-5.0 seconds
Technology wise it's right up there with expensive Euro cars, Has self parking which I never use, Lane departure warning, Push button start, Rear camera, Collision warning, Blind spot lights come on the side mirrors if car is just out of view. Brembo brakes which are amazing don't think I could own any car without big performance brakes, Saved me a few times already from idiots on the road.
High end Bose Stereo system which links up to phone.
But for me it's two best features are HUD(Heads up display) So I never have to look down at speedo all cars should have this from now on, And finally remote engine start so damn handy in early morning, Start car up from inside house or from inside work let it warm up engine and also cabin with heater or aircon, By the time I get out it's ready to go, No need to worry about damaging cold engine.
Great car, Will most likely be my last combustion car I'll keep it for at least another 7+ years, Only update cars every 10 years or more. I have large solar setup at home just need the affordable electric car then it's bye bye petrol/gas stations.
