Oh dear, looks like this year is a write off for the Note range at the very least. Maybe some of the more obscure Chinese brands could take advantage in time.

Re: Replacement Galaxy Note7 fire causes aircraft evacuation

I'm suspicious about this being a "fire", tbh. I don't see how the phone could possibly have got hot enough for combustion related smoke without him feeling the heat first (the story says it was smoking before he removed it from his pocket, and the smoke was the first thing that tipped him off - not that high temperatures that would've required). Wonder if this was in fact some kind of chemical burn/smoke from a ruptured cell or something, rather than an actual fire? Still not good, but probably unrelated to the recall issue, if that's the case...

Has there been any problems with the s7 line? I might have to go for the xz this time round.

The S7 active was found to not be as water resistant as claimed, but I've heard nothing bad about the normal s7's

For different reasons but yes. I am still awaiting for how much this currency is going to sink upon triggering Article 52. I think people are a bit living in an illusion, by thinking that the drop of the pound to 31 year low has stopped and everything is going to be fine and dandy...

Re: Replacement Galaxy Note7 fire causes aircraft evacuation

Seems like there were three or four Note7 replacement phones catch fire last week.

Re: Replacement Galaxy Note7 fire causes aircraft evacuation

Looks like Samsung's battery manufacturers have a quality control issue.

Given the number of units sold, one might suppose there might be the odd failure, but then given the consequences of a lithium ion battery failing, even one failure could be catastrophic. It is a testament to the majority of battery mfrs that there are so fe failures, given the millions that are in service. I dread to think what might have happened had this been packed in the hold surrounded by clothing.

My concern now would be an airline ban on all Lion battery powered devices, although how enforceable that might be is debateable, although any battery above a certain energy density has to be treated as hazardous air cargo. (and my local post office now asks if there are batteries in a parcel, although they don't specify type, chemistry, voltage etc)

If they did that, it would kill air travel dead. No mobile phones, tablets or laptops? No chance of that happening...

Nah, they didn't do this when sony Vaio batteries were going up a few years back. Be surprised if they did it now. They could however veto Samsung s7s until further notice. But this would lead to people tying to smuggle them in the hold baggage - which is arguably more dangerous if there is going to be a problem. Did Samsung not test this thing - or was it the pressure to release before the iphone7?

People forget though that any mobile device has a potential risk for blowing up one way or another... there is a reason to that you have to be home while stuff is recharging... whether it is a laptop... random other mobile devices and the likes.

So there is too much hype about nothing, at least the company admit they made a mistake, unlike certain others that cover it up.

True, but these seem to be catching fire in normal use, not just when charging.

Rember that if you are on an aircraft/train/car if one of these catches fire, although you would have an epitaph for a headstone...
