I would have gone with computing current estimated battery life based on current power consumption over current remaining charge. But then I'm just a pleb, what would I know?

Maybe it was the battery life indicator that was shortening the battery life ?

I'd be genuinely shocked they could screw up that hard on such a trivial feature.

This is for your own good, so that you do not stress too much.

Because the plebs don't have watches, clocks, smartphones or any other way of measuring how long their laptop lasted before needing its charger plugged in... so now they won't know, unless maybe they have a sundial... but it's Winter in the northern hemisphere so problem averted for 3 months!
