Atari will always hold a place in my heart from the 2600 days. I hope they don't screw it up by just creating another xbox or Playstation. Maybe it'll be a proper dedicated VR system..

Bet its some form of basic PC preloaded with an emulator (maybe for multiple systems?). Problem is something like RetroArch does such a good job on a miniPC what will make this stand out?
    Trust

    Laptop : Dell Inspiron 1545 with Ryzen 5500u, 16gb and 256 NVMe, Windows 11.

    This.

Also bare in mind this isn't really Atari, it's some VCs trying to make a fast buck wearing the dead skin of the Atari zombie. From all reports they have less than a dozen staff in total.

From the look of that close up (wood front, ridged plastic top) that's pretty much exactly what they're doing - that's totally a 2600 design cue.

It'll be very interesting to see what they do with this. Will it be an Atari steambox? Their own spin on a custom Linux + custom online store + emulators? Just a miniPC in a 2600-inspired case?

    hmmm....

This is pretty cool, hoping that it will be a bunch of classic system emulators much like the Atari Flashback systems but covering their computers like the 800XL and so on. Must have though is a SD card slot so you can use your own files on the machine.

Yeah, wow, the copyright attorneys that control the use of the Atari brand are having a consoles made. That is the equivalent of saying the private security firm Halburton is making a console, so what? The entire operations of Atari, Inc consist of a staff of 10 people and is mostly there to administrate a social casino gaming company.

Walk-up folks this is not Atari, there is not a drop of blood from the old company there.

Atari is the other Nokia, BlackBerry, Compaq and NEC call it wasted opportunities when they had a chance to shine.

Nokia (and Eriksson for that matter,) are still very successful businesses in the mobile sector. It's just now they build the equipment for the masts & back haul rather than end user gear so you don't hear about it as much.

Re: Atari boss admits "we're back in the hardware business"

We had the 2600 when I was a kid, the newer black plastic version, when it was officially called the Atari 2600 (not the older wood paneled VCS-CX2600 or CX2600A)
