I think I must be going deaf....

Can't see any compelling reason to upgrade from my Iphone7 which still does all I need from a smartphone. I guess the additional processing power is required to do the facial recognition thing, and while the home button may have gone (which may or may not be an improvement, depending on your POV) it has gained an extra side button to activate Siri.

I'd like to say that surely this time it is at a price point that will make people stop, think, and then decide against it, but unfortunately I know that some people (particularly those who see it as a status symbol) will still be willing to pay it anyway despite how ridiculously high it is.

Personally, I just can't fathom how anyone can justify to themselves that paying such an amount is worth it.

A bit on the pricey side that X variant.. By the way the iPhone SE is £299 at Argos and Currys/PCWorld.

Because most people can easily afford £55 per month as a status symbol, and Apple will happily finance you the product on a 24 month plan.

I thought half of that price was quite a lot to pay for a phone, but I accepted it with the fact it is a mini computer and will last me two years. 1k? no thanks, just no.

There's usually an upfront cost of a few hundred in addition to that too though, which reinforces my lack of understanding.

I am going to upgrade my 6s to the 8 I think.. 300 Squid for a better screen is just a no deal for me

The X is just an 8 with a better screen when it comes right down to it.

The prices include an interest charge, so they're making bank.

Gotta give it to Apple, they've made an absolute fortune from nothing.

Apple doesn't provide the credit - there are two credit plans available via Apple, one provided by PayPal, the other by Barclays.

    Edit

If you buy in a UK Apple Store, it can be bought on 20 months interest free credit (as can the 8 and 7)

does the faceID actually work though?
    https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/12/watc...demo-fail.html

    guess not.

I'm sure it was just a glitch to do with the stage lights or something. don't think it would affect them that much.

Wow, I did not expect them to actually charge a grand for a phone. If it was a limited edition, maybe, just maybe, I could let them justify it but nope, it's ridiculous what companies are charging for phone prices now. I paid £600 for my Samsung S8+ and even then I feel that was overpriced - this is simply daylight robbery!

Damn straight. It looks very good and the marketing will be second to none but my S8 is pretty damned good and was nowhere near a grand. It's a lot of money to ask and it will probably make a lot of people who would otherwise go straight for the iPhone consider those Android phones on the next shelf. There's too much decent competiton for them to price like this.

Well, I'm on the 5S still, and slowly coming around to thinking about upgrading my phone to a newer model. I will only buy the handset, no contracts, so it doesn't really work out that expensive once you factor in I keep a phone for longer.

With that said.... one grand for a phone? Not going to happen. I'll go back to Android.
