Re: Google 4th October Pixel event secrets spilled

Google must be rather miffed at such a comprehensive product announcement leak nearly a fortnight before it makes its big announcements.
I wonder how they feel about the world's tech press picking up the story and ensuring it gets to as wide an audience as possible...

That Pixel 2 XL price is very high, taking it that it will be $ to £ conversion...

I just don't get the point in the 'pixelbook'... for $1,199 (which will likely be £1200)or more I can get a fully featured laptop that can happily run chrome and a lot more.. Now I lose access to android apps but honestly I could likely squeeze in a cheap but decent android tablet into that £1200 for those....

As to the phones...all I can say is lol nope, seriously that was the first response when I saw the prices. I use android because it's the 'best option' for me but theres no way I'm paying that much for a google phone considering how much money they make from my 'usage data' etc.

'Leak' is just another term for marketing strategy, these days.

I mean, a whole two weeks - Who's gonna be able to come up with something to beat that in time?
Not like it destabilises the company, or anything...

Yep, looks like the V30 will be the phone of the year, simply because of their nice "jack n' DAC".

The excuse for that is getting pretty thin on the ground even when taking into account our price includes VAT, the $ to £ conversion doesn't support that currently.

The LG V30 has not yet been released, and is likely to cost around £700 when it comes out.

Personally I would recommend a OnePlus 5 instead, as it is much cheaper, and more enthusiast friendly.

Re: Google 4th October Pixel event secrets spilled

I was hoping the price of the pixel phones wouldn't be that high...
I was tempted to get a oneplus phone but the price hike of the oneplus 5 vs the oneplus 3 is crazy £309 to £449 and the only real difference is the dual camera ?
oneplus phones do get quite fast updates but oneplus has already said that oreo will be the last update for oneplus 3 which is disappointing considering the age of it.
I am tempted to go for Nokia 8 but once again even thou they provide fast updates they haven't been round long enough to tell how long they will support them for.

I feel we have got to the point where even the midrange phones do 99% of what people use smartphones for. I feel it is wrong that to get quick updates you have to buy a higher priced phone even to the extent of security patches which should be a given IMHO. seems even more stupid that phones are getting more and more expensive even thou hardly anything is gained. every year it is the same slighter faster slighty better camera etc but a much higher price tag again.

The phone i want currently doesn't exist. I want a decently priced android phone with stock or near stock android with quick updates for more than 3 years.

I am also more interested in having a bigger battery than a stupidly thin phone.

It is a shame that no one is filling the gap that the nexus series used to have. I felt oneplus nailed it with the oneplus 3 but i feel they have gotten greedy since even the extra cost for the 3t with the slight improvements.

I think it is wrong for google to price their phones at the same price of iphones without the same level of software support and also the fact that you are still providing all the data to google for datamining.

"Chromebook, Google will introduce the Pixelbook in silver with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options. Pricing will be $1,199, $1,399 and $1,749 respectively. "

If you buy this stuff the price will keep on rising. You and I KNOW that they're not worth it from a hardware perspective but having new shiny things is king.

Meh,yet another boring "high end phone" launch, which will scream "innovation" without actually really being that innovative.
