Open your Hotmail with Firefox in 1 click from desktop -Tip

I have been struggling to open hotmail from MSN messengers "My E-Mail inbox" and Firefoxes Tools > Read Mail WITHOUT Internet explorer opening.

After much surfing I thought I had found the answer. Install Messenger Plus and the plugin StuffPlug for Messenger Plus. Set open links using default browser and bob's your uncle......

it didn't work kept getting an error when setting open links in stuffplug

Well by this stage I was pretty p*ssed as I really want to kill IE and expect that the reason it didn't work is SP2 or M$ and the way IE is part of windows so I did this,

Open Firefox. Go to Hotmail, Sign in and check the box "automatically sign me in". Then highlight the address bar (all of it) and drag it to the desktop.

Viola - double click desktop icon and up pops Hotmail in FF. I then dragged this icon to my quick launch bar and there you have it, 1 click to Hotmail using FF from the desktop.

P.S. I'm sure that someone somewhere will have done this before me but I'm still pretty pleased with myself and thought that others might find this useful.

Ta - the only drawback to it is, other people can read your hotmail. So if you want to you can set it to the sign-in screen instead.

My motto on that little escapade is "there is always a way!"

Yeh pretty decent tip, really annoying the fact they wont let you use firefox, at least they have loosened up and are no longer making you use there hotmail browser thing.

I'm using the messenger 7 beta thats been around for a while and stuffplugin 2 or whatever it's called and it opens in firefox when I click on E-mail on the messenger window. Is that what you mean as it works here? Helps if you set tabs up to open a new one when an outside app wants to open then it just works nice and doesn't interfere at all.

Ah, maybe if you have MSN 7, and the 3.40 beta release of Plus!, designed as a temporary MSN Plus! for all MSN 7 users, it works?

D/w about the FireFox problem though, the new version of MSN Plus! is coming out relatively soon, with a heap of new features. I daresay due to demand, FireFox support will be one of those features.

Oh I forgot to say, this new version coming out soon is for the new MSN 7, so you'll need to upgrade for it.

Yes - I should have mentioned this. Good one nvening.

It does have a crafty acceptance tick box screen so read both the options carefully before installing.

At some point I will look to try and get rid of messenger and then re-install to the latest version. That's probably why stuffplug didn't work for me.
