    Memtest86

Said it many times, shall say it again. This program rocks

For the un-initiated: you down load it, unzip it. http://www.memtest86.com/

you need the precompiled one that runs wil create the disk from Windows.
    http://www.memtest86.com/memt32.zip

whack a floppy in your drive (ooh baby) format it, then open up the unzipped Memtest file and run the executable. It will ask you to put a floppy in (done) and then ask what drive letter it is (normally A) and then it installs to the floppy.

Then you reboot with floppy in, making sure your BIOS is set to boot up from floppy first (most are, easyto change if not) and then leave it to run. Its in Linux, not DOS, its totally sperate to Microsoft and uses the settings you put on your ram in BIOS.

Menu along bottom. Tests running in top right corner. Memory speed info (very usefull as its the BIOS settings you have set for your ram) top left.

and any errors listed in centre.

    Leave to run.

    Bloody awesome.

Use the same program but don't have a floppy so use it via a bootable Knoppix CD (just downloaded 3.7).

you lot rock even MORE I didnt know about the CD version....or the Windows version.

I'd be tempted to stick with the floppy or CD version though....takes most other potential errors out of harms way.

That isn't made by Memtest - but I find it very good. (On some damaged RAM it picked up the same number of errors as 86 so ...).
