7 FPS on HL2 coastal level

I'm playing through HL2 again on hard and getting 7-8 fps on the coastal level. I'm at the point where I've cleared the barn and house of combine, and chucked a few cars off the road to get past, before reaching the big roadblock before the combine forcefield. This is where there is a combine soldier on top of a petrol advertising hoarding.

I have AA/AF disabled, although I never had these problems before with the same card (see sig).

Can anyone suggest anything?

Tried to fiddle in the BIOS. Uprated memory speed to 125% (of FSB I presume) - would not post, nearly shat myself. First time I've ever had to remove the CMOS battery and reset the jumper. As you can see, it worked, but I won't be trying that trick again!

This is really baffling me. Like I said, I never had this problem on Normal difficulty, and switching back to normal has no effect either. Might try some DM tomorrow, see how that goes.

maybe on the files has become buggered, try having a look on the steam forums for some help. They will have much more experience in this kind of thing.

HL2 is buggered full stop . I never had any problems before but after reinstalling it the other day it seems to crash randomly when trying to load a new level...
