Faulty GPU or Monitor?

OK, bought a new monitor a few months back of these forums I think. Been having a few troubles. Started off when it seemed to degauss every now and then for weird reasons, like right clicking on the desktop. Then the other day I boot up and notice the POST screen is discoloured and distorted. Black appears as dark purple and the screen is almost round. Get into Windows and the same thing had happened. I used the OSD to correct the screen shape, still looks a bit funny though. Black still appears as dark purple. Running games at fullscreen required the same PITA (pain in the ....) OSD corrections.

At first I thought it was the VGA cable as my old monitor had similar colour problems and moving the cable corrected it. I can't do this. I'm thinking it either has to be the GPU or Monitor as drivers don't even come into play when you're at the POST screen! Any ideas what I can try to figure out where the fault is?

I have an XFX 6800GT AGP card and a Mitsubishi 19" Diamond Pro 930sb monitor.

Agreed ... My old 19" Mitsi died a similar way... thank god I won a nice bigger taxan to replace it about 8 weeks beforehand.

It might be under warranty as they have a 3 year so it's worth checking with the seller if this is the fact.

Hmm. Gotta contact the seller find out when they bought it, maybe it'll still be under warranty? Dunno, it was pretty new and in good condition when I received it. Oh well, it was pretty cheap!

Good excuse to change to a TFT perhaps? My desk can't take much more of this 25kg monster...

It's probably the monitor going unfortunately

It could be that the small chip that remembers all the osd corrections was wiped for some reason so it has to be re-entered for some reason. Try manual degausing it and see if there is a factory reset option. Im guessing here though.

Yea its a great excuse to get a TFT, my desk was so happy when I switched to tft! It was bending so much with the CRT beast on it.

Nah... CRT's are still the daddy... hell I love running WoW @ 1600 by 1200 and could never go back to a lower resolution. As for the weight of the thing... try carrying one to a LAN - I have its manly and builds character

Monkey - I know, I love 1600x1200, suppose I'll have to get a monster 19" TFT which can handle 1600x1200 to replace it? Will cost a small fortune though... Either that or see if WoW runs on dual screens? That would be kewl... Map, inventory, quest log on one screen and main view and buttons on the other!

Not quite the same, but the native 1680x1050 on my Dell is pretty damn fine.
Worth a look if you decide to go down the new monitor route.

19" TFT monitors don't do 1600x1200 unfortunately, they're limited to 1280x1024, same as 17". To get higher you'll need a 20".

Yea my argos desk was only £30 and it really didnt like the bifta crt I put on it, I thought it was going to break!

Erm, ROFL! I'm afraid I don't have a money tree in my garden..... £500+ for a monitor is NOT an option!

Suppose I'll either have to buy another bulky CRT or try and get on with a resolution of 1280x1024.

I don't know where it was purchased from, but some monitors are made for the Northern Hemisphere, and if they are used in the Southern Hemisphere they will play up and vice versa.

Also, do you have it near any strong magnets, like speakers for example as they can distort the image.

Does it do this in Safe Mode?
