    Talking HEXUS.World-Exclusive :: Pictures and information on IWILL's ZMAXd2

Remember when we broke the world's first exclusive spy shots of the IWILL ZMAXdp? Dual AMD Opteron in a small PC had the world smacking their lips at the thought of all that power in that tiny chassis. Remember when I then exclusively reviewed the unit back in September last year, after working with Armari with the sample?

I'll have to do that world exclusive thing again I'm afraid, this time with the first pictures of the new ZMAXd2. Packing support for NVIDIA's SLI technology via nForce4 SLI core logic, along with support for dual-core Opteron, the ZMAXd2 crams even more into the same space, doubling the CPU and graphics power with help from a new 400W power supply, especially developed by IWILL for the unit.

Click each one for a bigger version. The unit I've seen is black, which is the colour I hoped the review sample would be all those months ago, and it looks mean. Imagine dual-core Opteron, a pair of 6800 GTs in SLI and 2GiB of system memory, in a black ZMAXd2, cooled by a black version of Zalman's Reserator?

IWill's main challenge is cooling the CPUs - some 95W of thermal output at peak, being dual-core - but they're confident the air cooling will be up to the job, with the new PSU taking care of power.

I'll leave you dribbling at the pics, more on the ZMAXd2 when we get it.

    What's the cooling solution?
Ah, you have to underclock? Right, that explains it.

Are you part of Iwill's development team, who knows how the next cooling solution will handle the heat loads ?

Do you develop thermal solutions for current microprocessor designs?

In other words, please qualify your statement about underclocking, so I can get a handle on what you're really trying to say here, so people can discuss what's a very valid concern.

I read that the engineers at Iwill did an impressive job at keeping the temps down on the first ZMAXdp, so I'm sure they can do it again.

    But a yellow case?

What is the port configuration for the ZMAXd2? 16+4? or 8+8?

    It looks damn attractive

IF it can use non-registered non-ecc memory like the discontinued Abit WN-2S+, it would be a very attractive platform.

Thinking of sticking a pair of E4 244/246 and 2 HPT Host-based external raid cards (not out yet), and that'll be a very nice small fileserver. Any overclocking option available on the board?

What is the point for Iwill to put in 4 SATA port when it looks like it only support 3 devices?

The big question is, of course, when will it be available to buy?

It certainly looks like a great piece of kit.

I doubt you'll get many (if any) o'clocking options on a dual board. Opterons are predominantly server/workstation chips & therefore overclocking is not usually an option.

I know people do, such as myself, but they're multi-locked so you're very limited should you be able to.

    LOL Nice

What a Hefty little work station for people who use 3d modelling or CAD or render stuff for a living.

Is it cooled with a Zalman Reserator as stated in the article, or standard air cooled, heat pipe as per the ZMAZdp? I'd be for a Reserator version, cool and quiet.
