I believe it is a little known fact that no-one ever said "Beam me up scotty" and when fans used to say this to him, it used to drive him wild
    It is Inevitable.....

Tis a great loss. His legacy will stay around for a long time yet.

Indeed, it was "Beam me up, Mr Scott" - although William Shatner did make a comment along the lines of:

"Kirk issued a command he had never given before.... "Beam me up Scotty"" in one of his "return of Kirk" books.

A sad loss, indeed. A nice chap, and he was one of the most regular cast-member visitors to Trekker conventions if memory serves me correctly.

Shatner atually said, Scotty Beam me up, in ST IV The Voyage Home, I think thats the closest he got to it. Shame Mr Doohan wasn't well, didn't he have ME or something? Also Alzhimers.

A shame to hear of his departure from this world.
