If you are an experienced overclocker and are comfortable in the BIOS then you can't go past the DFI boards, as long as your PSU & RAM are up to scratch!

DFI utra D i bought one for £100 which is way mre than I normally spend on a motherboard but it is a fantastic board and money well spent. I am running my 3700+ at 2.7ghz 100% stable.

So looks like no one likes the abit range as for asus are these the top of the range boards my last board was the at7-max2 at £150 so was looking at the same price range but if i don't need to go higher other than sli then okay
    Thanks

mmm Nightshadow mentioned the 2 Abit contending ranges.
I will now sound like a broken record:
I like my AN8 Ultra very much.
Why? It works, overclocks nicely, it's quiet (passive chipset cooler unlike the whiny, failure prone ASUS fan) & it's got 3.5V for Vdimm.

    Think of it this way:
ASUS reliable but not exactly exciting > DFI thouroughbred racehorse incl. the highly strung that goes with it & the Abit as the middle ground.

Go Abit or, if you wanna million options for overclocking, get a DFI board.

if i were you - DFI all the way!

thing is - you dont tend to change your motherboard unless you are going to a different socket-type, so it does make sense that you get the most flexible one (you dont want to stumble upon cheap BH5 only to find your mobo doesnt do 3.4V Vdimm later on - its a nightmare!)

only issue i have with abit is the silent q-otes thing - apparently doesnt like you overclocking much!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but i'm basically in the same position.

I'm looking to order an opty 146 and would like a motherboard, but wondered which ones are the quietest?

Are there any silent DFI boards out there? Alot of people have said the chipsets are noisy.

    thankyou.

    According to whom?
The AN8 Ultra is a great overclocker & seeing as DFI no longer officially support the 4V jumper on the nF4 series it's got the highest stock supported Vdimm of any nF4 board that I know.
Having said that with the increasing move to 1 Gb DIMMs & there being no BH-5 Dimms Vdimm isn't much of a problem for most people now.
