All those people who shelled out for a x1800XT will be pissed. Its not going to do ATi any favours replcaing a model range after only a few months.

Computer hardware gets replaced often, could of guessed this, and for gfx cards its every year for a new range and 6 months in the top end gets 'upped' a bit. People who bought their new cards knew this would happen.

This happens all the time, always has done and always will do, there's always something around the corner in PC hardware.

Old news i'm afraid. This was known ages ago. Bearing in mind that an x800xt is @£400 and a 7800gtx is £330+ these new cards will be very expensive.

Why can't we get today's technology yesterday at tomorrow's prices? That's what I want to know.

Becuase that want to maximise profits; many people will buy it when it is new and still the best, so they charge loads then, and when something better comes, they lower the prices to shift the old stock.

Actually X1800XT's are coming down in price, pretty rapidly. OCUk do at least one of there's for about £350. If it lowers anymore, the normal GTX will be obselete IMO.

^ it will be if you only want a single card system.

If you want two cards (now or in future) then SLi is a better option atm. There just isn't the xfire hardware available at the moment, lack of master cards ($$$) and not a very wide selection of mobo's. NF4 chipset is mature. If x1800xt's drop in price then nvidia will drop accordingly, they can't afford to otherwise.

I looked long and hard at the x1800xl v 7800gt and x1800xt v 7800gtx (256mb) fight.
I had plumped for a 7800gt but bought a gtx from a friend for a very good price.

I would have liked to keep with ATi as I like their drivers/support and my 9700pro has given me great service, but the gtx got it with bang for buck (and I can buy another in 6 months time if need and not worry about supply of cards)
