Missing desktop PC from Network places

    Please can some one help?

My Mesh Desktop PC is connected (wired)to my Linksys WRT54GSUK which is then connected to NTL broadband, internet from this works fine. The Mesh identifies my wireless laptop on the mshome network and can browse and use these files from my laptop.

But unfortnately the desktop does not appear in the network places I have tried network wizard which runs fine but desktop still does not list it self in the network. How do I resolve this???

The crazy thing is that my XBOX 360 can view and use shared files through media connect.

I am wits end all my photos are on my desktop which is in the nursery hence the purchase of the laptop which I would like to link to, this shall allow me to sort out those baby photos remotely.

    Thanks in anticipation

Basically it could be anything, windows networking is terrible. If you know the ip address of the desktop (start>run cmd, then type ipconfig) then start a command window on the laptop, and type 'net view <ip address>' then that usually makes it appear.

    Hi Marc E

    1) Check any firewalls you have on the system as it maybe blocking access.

    2) to check your IP address on the PC click on start then run type CMD and click on

You will get a new dos type windows open, as the promt type ipconfig /all and press enter

    Phil.

Windows Firewall has been set to allow sharing of files.

Files on desktop have been ticked to allow file sharing.

True, but (and no offence to the op) i didnt want to confuse people, its a bit of a case of sledgehammer to crack a nut to install a proper dns server and everything isnt it?
