    Can anyone recommend a DVD-RW

    Hi,

can anyone recommend a decent DVD-RW - im just putting the finishing touches to my new rig and looking for one. It HAS to be silver and about £25-£30 inc deliv so scan would be ideal.

i really wanted the Pioneer 111 but silver ones seem to be pretty rare.

    Any ideas??

    cheers

I was gonna suggest Pioneer as I have a 108 which is spot on (and a 111 which I have yet to use). I've heard good things about NEC drives too, and you can never go wrong with Plextor. Doubt you'll get a Plextor for £30 though.

i think it could be the NEC i go for - like i said earlier i REALLY wanted the Pioneer but luck for a silver one with scan. Other places have the odd one left but the price is higher and deliv on top, its just not worth it

Generally DVDRW drives are much or a muchness these days - I've always liked NEC but I'd go for whichever one you can get the cheapest to be honest.

EDIT: As long as it's a well known brand of course...

Phew thought i was the only one that liked them for a moment then..

strangely enought i havent noticed anyone recommending Lite-Ons. they were hot back in the CD-R/W days.. and the 2nd to last DVD-RW i bought was a lite-on (not dual layer unless used hacked firmware) wasnt too bad.. but i like LGs... tbh i think the quality of drives these days are good..

I have a Pioneer DVR-111 Black in my media center and I can recommend it. So far it seems to be able to handle anything from good down to poor quality media. So far I've only had one coaster which was due to the disk dye being damaged rather than the drive itself.

edit: scan stock the silver one but don't have stock at the moment.

Another vote for NEC here, as to comment on Liteon, yep I loved their cd-rw's but I've had two DVD-rw's go bad on me. I then switched to NEC.

My old NEC was very good as well, my only complaint was that the tray mechanism was very loud, although that may be a sign that it was well built as once it started opening nothing could stop it...
