Discontinued AM2 X2 4400+, any on their way?

Hey guys, after reading the news about AMD killing off chips with 2x1Mb cache I noticed there are some are up for sale on the website, but the one I wanted (AM2 X2 4400+) is out of stock.

Now that these are going away, is it likely that any more will reach Scan... or even any other UK e-tailers? Any idea if some are on the way, or was this last shipment of these discontinued CPUs the last we'll see?

I doubt they'd discontinue a chip they've literally only just released?

Its not the AM2 chip AMD have discontinued its the 2 x 1Kb L2 cache versions to be replaced with 2 x 512Kb L2 Cache versions.

I will try and check the versions we have in stock; however this may be difficult as we are likely to have mixed batches in stock.

I will look into this in the morning for you and update this thread

    Original post amended

I have just checked with purchasing and none of our suppliers has stock of the AM2 4400 CPU, so it is unlikely this CPU will ever come into stock as it is now EOL.

    Sorry

Anyone know why they're downgrading the cache? Seems a little odd if they want to increase performance, surely?

larger cache size means fewer cores per wafer & higher failure rate = noticeably higher cost per unit compared to the 3% loss in performance of the 512k. They will probably also clock higher with less cache.
AMD are getting ready to fight Conroe via price until they have something that can fight on performance.

Ahh well, thanks muchly checking up. I guess I will hold out a bit longer in that case and consider the other options... still got a while to wait and save up some money anyways lol... Hmm I wonder if they'll bring out Opterons for the AM2 socket...

lol that is soo stupid imo, i mean what is the point in getting the higher priced version (other than the FX60) when they are all essentially the same other than clock speeds. It is a bad move by AMD in my opinion, I know thye have a good reason but
