Conroe up for pre-order

With the yields I am seeing on the CPUs I have here... i'd get the low end ones and simply clock them up

I remember Intel saying at the IDF that they were going very agressive on price, they proved it afterwards by slashing the prices on thier outgoing range of Penitum 4 & Pentium D CPUs and seem to havce continued it with the initial pricing of Core 2. With the thermal envelope of the Core 2 Duo there seems to be good scope for overclocking within the bounds of conventional cooling, espeically the 2MB cache models as they will have a significantly smaller surface area and are cheaper to boot.

A nice potential overlock is a Core 2 Duo E6300 (1.86GHz) @ 2.8GHz, or 7x400MHz (1600MHz FSB quad pumped) which would sync the base clock of the FSB and memory at 400MHz (based on using DDR2-800).

I would guess shortages would be very likely.. These bad boys will probibly be snapped up fairly rapidly.

Whats the situation with 'pre-ordering ' from Overclocker ??? Will they keep me hanging on for ages ? Take my money or are they reliable.

TBH I usually use Tekheads or CCL.....

Anyone recommend a decent board to go with these new Conroe chips, is there a favourite yet.

What Intel plans and what Intel delivers is two different things, they're going to give first dibs to OEMs first and formost, and all us minority enthusiasts will get the pickings until Intel can meet demand.

I'm just going to wait this one out for a bit, hopefully in six months time there will be some decent, cheaper, motherboards around. The cpus may be relatively cheap but the mobos certainly aren't!

I have read in intel press realeases that conroe is going to be realesed on the 23rd, however some websites are now saying that this has been delayed til the 27th. I have also read on a thread somewhere (i think in the scan message board section) that they are now set for the 14th.
Do we really know yet, or is it just a guessing game still?
