Fried Mobo??

Hi,
My mother has an Emachines 210 which is just over 2 years old.
She went to turn it on last week and it did not do anything. I had a look at it and found that the psu was dead. (IE: did the pin 14/ground short and the fan did not spin)
It did not stop working, it did not smoke or go bang, it just simply did not turn on one day.

I bought a new psu, but now the psu fan and cpu fan spin continuously as soon as I plug the lead in the back of the pc, the button on the front does not switch on or off (Tho it is constantly lit) the monitor does nothing and windows will not boot.
I tried to boot the machine with a HD from one of my pc's but the problem was the same.

According to various forums/google it would seem that the mobo may be damaged. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I am hoping to get a cheap compatible replacement board that hopefully will fit in the same position (plugs/sockets etc). Can anybody recommend one?
I realise that it is a low spec machine, but it is ideal for her as she only uses it for emailing / web browsing / digital camera etc.

If you can look around and try to get a PSU from another e-machine"S unit and try that sometimes those pc"s are a little proprietary when it come"s to installed hardware component"s

I had a chaepy system that I got my mum and dad go belly up not long ago. A capacitor in the PSU blew and took out everything in the system except the ram and CPU.

When I took the top off the psu, paperand di-electric from the cap had wrapped around everything.

It was just out of warranty, so couldnt RMA, had to replace nearly everything.

I had the same problem with a pc when we replaced the psu - the fan started spinning as soon as it was connected. It was a faulty psu afaik.

My friends Emchine died the same way. PSU killed the rest of the system that was a celly with PC2100 ram cant remeber the exacct spec

Cheers, yes all of the plugs are in place properly. I have tried removing then replacing plugs one by one but to no avail.
