On-line sales portal eBay has made what looks to be a very a significant change to the conditions under which sellers operate. From now on, they can't sell if they keep their feedback profiles hidden from view.

So how does this stop scammers creating an account, bidding on 500 items (mobile phones mainly) one night and never paying? (and asking you to ship them to their aunt in nigeria) It takes at least 1 or 2 days for negative feedback to appear on the account in the first place...

Heh most obvious idea. Being able to hide feedback always seemed completely stupid to me.

For me as soon as I saw private feedback I would hit the back button

I would not trade with anyone keeping their feedback private, they usually have something to hide...

Can't see this making ebay any safer, unfortunately. Like another poster said, scammers will just create a new account.
